Description A sketch I drew of my Grandfather - Terrance Sidney Meredith during his graduation from University.
I will probably revisit this as my sketching has improved quite a bit since I sketched this, im not really happy with the shading especially on his gown.

A bit of history -
I believe he studied a PhD in medicine, I am currently sorting his belongings so I will eventually find his degree and discover more facts about his life. He always had a thirst for knowledge and completed his PhD a few years after retiring for no other reason but to prove he could do it and learn new things in the process.

Truly a hero in my eyes, he left school at 14 to work in a steel mill to support his family as they were very poor at the time.
By age 20 he had a fair bit of money saved and purchased a Rolls Royce young (crashed it off a cliff in Wales as he was quite the boy racer!).
His attitude was always to live life to the fullest and never let money or circumstance hold you back. He raised me to respect money seeing it as no obstacle to obtaining a good education and doing what you love.
He was always a humble man and chose not to spoke about himself or his past always taking great interest in others and encouraging them to follow their dreams.

He eventually left to work in a hospital although details on when and how are pretty sketchy (I'm currently researching his past as he rarely spoke about it as much as I tried), he worked as a nurse for most of his life and eventually became head nurse and managed his own ward. His wife Diane was also a head nurse having learnt in the military aged 20.
After retirement he still continued to work for charities and the local hospice as a volunteer. We still get as many as 60 Christmas cards from people we don't know thanking him for helping them when they needed it most and introducing them to organisations that could help with education and socialising.

Born into a poor family with no real prospects, he quickly turned it around and retired at age 65 rich and happy with wife and children. A real hero and I hope I make even half of the impact he did.
Sadly dementia, frailty and pneumonia took him aged 80 in 2020.
Even during the last years of his life where his Dementia had developed and he couldn't remember most of his life he was still happy and smiling, a song would come on the radio and suddenly he would spring back to life, grab you and start dancing with not a care in the world!

RIP Terry, you were the best role model and grandfather a kid could ask for <3
