Description
"What do you think the count is?" Ruby asked as her optics scanned the area, tallying the number of enemy robians that were circling and closing in on her and her accomplice.

"I make it two fifty, maybe three hundred. And more on the way. Looks like 'Botnik doesn't want to make this easy." Shortfuse answered. The Cybernik was the latest weapon created by Dr. Robotnik, a near indestructible robotic suit, armed to the teeth with weaponary and gadgets for the sole purpose of hunting down and eliminating Robotnik's major enemies, including one Sonic the Hedgehog.

The suit itself ran on what Robotnik called an "organic battery" in which a mobian was permanently sealed in the suit to power it.

Unfortunately, that mobian was Shorty the Squirrel. When the overlord's forces came to his village and rounded up everyone for roboticization, the young squirrel tried to fight his way out to save himself and his friends but he was caught. Yet he tried it again and was caught a second time. After repeatedly trying to escape only to be caught each time, Robotnik decided that the stubborn squirrel would make an excellent test subject for his latest prototype weapon. He placed the young male squirrel into the suit and proceeded to blank his mind, leaving Shorty loyal only to him.

And unfortunately for Robotnik, the brainwashing process failed and he soon found the Cybernik to be as big a pain in his side as the Hedgehog. But Shorty, or Shortfuse as he now called himself, wasn't invincible, Robotnik wanted the Cybernik back, and he was going to get him no matter what. And after locating Shortfuse's current position, Robotnik sent out an entire army of Swatbots, with a few dozen mobians thrown in to make things difficult for the Cybernik, knowing he wouldn't dare open fire on a roboticized mobian.

But the sight of the robian skunk who was with his Cybernik caught his attention. Clearly not of his own robian design, just who was she? He would find out soon enough once his forces captured the two, then he could dissect her to see what made the robian skunk tick.

"Easy? This ani't gonna be easy..." Ruby reached into her trenchcoat, a hold over from her former life as mobian and drew out her modified pistol, switching from it's secondary mode, that of firing mega-muck, to the new primary setting, a phase plasma pistol. "It's gonna be fun!"

"Can't argue with that!" Shortfuse answered, a hint of eagerness in his voice to the upcoming battle as he raised both arms up, locking on to the oncoming hoard of Swatbots. "Pick your targets carefully, don't wanna be taking out a robian!"

"C'mon, as if I would!" Her pistol, now fully charged and ready for use, was also aimed at the oncoming Swatbots, her finger on the trigger, iching to pull it. "Whenever you're ready..."

The inbuilt blasters on Shortfuse's forearms each began to emit an soft orange light which brightened into a solid bright glow, ready to discharge and turn the legion of Swatbots into scrap metal. "ROCK ON!" And the charge from his left wrist struck a Swatbot dead center in the head, causing it to explode and rain hundreds of pieces of shrapnel down onto the many other Swatbots and robians that closed in on their position.

And the robian skunk squeezed on the trigger of her pistol and fired a bolt of plasma energy to the nearest robotic soldier. "LET'S BLITZ THESE THINGS!"

After having commissioned to do the last picture of robian Ruby (link: [link] ) and after I got the sketch of Shortfuse the Cybernik from Nigel Dobbyn (link: [link] ) , Nmac found himself wanting to draw more of the Cybernik and I figured a picture of the two of them would make for a fun picture!

While I know that Shortfuse was a character who originated in the Fleetway Sonic comic series, the short story above is set in a universe (aka my own lil continuity) which takes various elements from all Sonic continuities, so please, there's no need to point out that Shortfuse is appearing along side a robian.
