As the 2200s continued, both the M7 and M5s increasingly saw more combat off planet- and while the M7A1 and M5A1 variants were holding their own, they needed upgrading again.

Once the M7A2 and M5A2's new turrets were added, the adjustment in the hulls were seen as good enough to serve until the replacements could be tested and adopted. Yet, war waits for none and with both tanks being used a program to add technologies to the MBTs was created.

Enter Streetfighter and Barfighter.

Streetfighter was the urban kit, as the M5s were more used around cities and with mobile forces:

Streetfighter Armor package: Designed to deal with evolving threats in urban close combat, the ERA/NERA and APS packages upgrade the protection to also keep in mind infantry distance. APS now uses lasers to defeat projectiles, while the ERA is turned from flying plates into a carbon-fiber mesh interwoven with a nanocrystalline copper spacer. two RWS (30mm/14.5) or (40mm/14.5) are added and with the adding of loitering drones for the command tank variant, the situation awareness was increased.

Barfighter was designed to increase the gap that was being closed on the effectiveness of the M7 against other armor:

Barfighter was designed for entirely different reasons. This is the anti-tank upgrade armor kit which adds heavier tandem APS and ERA to the tank. This also adds guidance kit to the 125mm Line of Sight Anti-Tank Hypervelocity Dart.
