Description
The Eragon movie was on last night, and it got me thinking a lot about dragon designs/ how there was so much more that could have been done with the film. I enjoyed it a lot when I was in 3rd grade, but even as a child it didn’t hold a candle to the books... I realized I have never tried to illustrate any of the original dragons or riders from before the fall, and decided to give Morzan’s beast a go! This was inspired by the description given in the books, detailing the downfall of the riders.
“After Du Namar Aurboda, the Forsworn's dragons became beastlike and some of the Forsworn themselves went insane.”
I imagine that the beastlike nature of the dragons was something they experienced both mentally and physically, their bodies becoming more untamed after losing their rites, and growing in ways that the more “domesticated” or bonded dragons never would... spines piercing out in ragged uneven numbers, their horns elongated and curled with age. The delicate crests above their eyes receding to become thicker, and sturdier, more prepared for combat. Perhaps they grew beards and snakelike tongues and other features too, losing their head crests (seen on Thorn here: www.deviantart.com/shon2/art/T… ) as they lost their ties with Galbatorix’s forced use of magic for growth and reverted back into their unaltered selves. Maybe even their colors dulled as they began to rely on physical advantages rather than magical ones for hunting, who knows!

I would love to draw Saphira I next, if I get the time
