I've been crazy excited to do Tiana- she's not my favourite princess, but I started researching her dress in the very early stages of this project and got pretty hyped up about it.Most of the dresses in Princess and the Frog do have some historical basis (lots of dropped waists and slinky chemises), so I thought it would be fun to tackle Tiana's magic-kiss-swamp-frog-something gown during the climax of the film. It's the one dress that's clearly meant to just be a standalone "princess" dress, but I liked the idea of a challenge and decided to drag it kicking and screaming back into the 20's.
I based the dress on Lanvin's robes de style, which were- unlike the flapper dresses most people associate with the Jazz Age- fitted in the bodice with a wide, panniered skirt. The robe de style was considered a relatively conservative dress choice so you probably wouldn't have seen a hem hiked up this high, but COME ON HOW OFTEN DO I GET TO DRAW THEIR LEGS. Not often enough, I'll tell you that.

That being said, this one is probably one of my favorites because of which princess it is, my bias towards black female leads, and that you drew her dancing. I've always wanted a pair of 20's dancer-heels.

TheMetaPicture.com posted your drawings today ([link] ) and I could barely make out the credit saying "2011 Claire" so I searched for you and found out that this has made its round already, years back! Wow! I can't believe I never came across it!
Anyway, this work literally took my breath away! It made me want to create! You're an amazing artist. This is wonderful, creative, thoughtful work. So great! Many, many kudos to you! I want them all as a book!
I have yet to read the FAQ, but maybe you should create a book! Although I imagine there may be copyright issues. But it would be amazing to actually learn about period fashion through the use of your amazing art! Just a thought!

Your representation of Tiana is fantastic! She's beautiful and the bliss on her face is palpable. And the movement...there's so much movement and energy. I haven't seen The Princess and the Frog, but I think I'm satisfied just seeing this art.

(Faves and recommends) I definitely thing you got what you were after! It's definite Roaring Twenties, but it's also classic Tiana because of the lily and the green. Reminds me a lot of the Showboat Jubilee female dancers' dresses, which is a good thing in my opinion. Keep it up!

Oh man this is fantastic! I love that you incorporated 20s style beyond the typical flapper - it was an era with a lot of things going on, and the fashion reflected it. While it wasn't my favorite movie, it was better than it got credit for (the scene with Evangeline made me cry, I'll admit, cause I'm a mush), and Tiana was a bada$$.
I especially love the mid-Charleston positioning of her hands and feet. Great work! And the dress, of course, is spectacular. The fireflies are a nice touch.
