Description
I won't expect your presenceevery second of the day
through a screen that screams for us
as we go on our way.
I won't expect your presents
with petals soft and red
or plush and cotton animals
with stuffing in their heads.
I only hope you think of me
when you buy a latte at the coffee shop
and spill a drop
on a stranger passing by.
You'll sigh and let me know
the awkward moment you experienced
while we lie in bed,
my head upon your chest,
your hand pressed against my neck at 1:00 AM.
I won't expect your happiness
to glimmer in your eyes
every night you're near me.
I won't encourage lies.
I want you to be honest
if you're hurt or sad or scared
I'll stay with you in darkness,
greet each demon that you bare.
If you're working
or your searching for your soul
I have some artwork of my own
that I can hone while you're away.
Explore the world inside your mind
or the pines of the Northwest
or the south of France or Budapest,
Just find your way back home to me
wherever I may be - New York or Montgomery,
Chicago or Los Angeles,
a cabin in the mountains or a beach house by the sea,
or locked inside your tight embrace.
I won't expect a 'thing' with you
or a date night every week,
maybe just a key into a
house where I can sleep.
And if I take you somewhere
or I give you something nice,
I won't expect repayment,
love doesn't have a price.
In the end, I want one thing -
to know that someone thinks of me
and when you catch my glance and we make eyes
while speaking with our friends
a new dimension opens up - one of trust and hope and love
and time and dedication and the hard work we put in
to mend each others' wounds and learn our favorite artists' tunes
so we could listen to them when we were apart
but never lonely in the heart.
I only hope you hear me out,
I fight for what I need
I've learned not to think with my heart,
but listen to my intuition.
It may not be easy
we may not be settled down
we may not have security
or even our own house.
I know this may sound cheesy
but it's truthful, nonetheless
our home is in each others' arms,
I truly believe this.
