It was a major over sight,
Who knew pain could become pleasure?
In the end, that's all the mattered.

The fire continues to rise,
I consciously stoke them higher.
The embers were so small,
Who knew they would bring an inferno?
Fires always start out small.
A deep, throbbing ache.
The deepest ones don't go away.

Guess the deed has been done?
I find the smallest of ones pitiable.
They're not old enough to notice cruelty.
So young and so malleable.
They'll never get that innocence back again.
Though going to sleep forever wouldn't help,
Some people just can't help but wish for that.
