Description Not one of my best pieces but still some fun to draw. I was thinking about the movie Clockwork Orange today and sketched this out, I quickly threw some color on it and put it up here.

Ahhh, I love it.

HMMMM- You don't give yourself enough credit! This is a very nice piece, striking even. It would make a great tee-shirt. The composition is great, the colors wonderful! I'm not just blow smoke up yer arse either! I'm woman enough to admit I'm jealous of your work. Man, I suck at drawing monsters, I don't know how you do it!

H aha, thanks. I've been drawing monsters since I could hold a pencil. I remember I drew a picture of Jaws eating people in Elementary school and the principal hung it up above his desk for years and years. I remember getting in trouble but being proud that there was an image of ashark eating people in this guy's office.

"Oh bliss! Bliss and heaven! Oh, it was gorgeousness and gorgeousity made flesh. It was like a bird of rarest-spun heaven metal or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now. As I slooshied, I knew such lovely pictures!"

holy crap. My face exploded again! That’s the third time this week! I think this is fantastic... and as for the face... Dead on in my opinion. I can see Young Malcolm McDowell shining there, no doubt.

Fantastic work. I like how you stuck to the color palette of the original movie poster (black, white and orange). Alex is front and center, as he ought to be...

haha that's sweet. but I'm not liking alex's face there. tis abit obstruct(and if this was an actual forum I'd show you what i mean but since this is DA... well).
I'd redraw the face though.

I'm not as much as a perfectionist as you I guess. I just like to draw, get ideas out and move on. I like to create things not show how good or perfect my drawing can be. I totally agree the face is a little weak, thats why I said it is not one my best pieces, I know what you are saying, it doesn't have as much structure as my other stuff. But at the same time this piece isn't my portfolio piece, it is just a fun little sketch and I'm on to the next one. Thanks for pointing it out though.

sausage-of-joy In reply to sideshowmonkey [2005-09-28 17:43:15 +0000 UTC]

no need to be rude. and no I'm not a perfectionist. and besides it's not about being a perfectionist. even if it's just a quick sketch doesn't mean it should look good.
and you know I don't spend alot of time on my stuff(not saying I shouldn't) but most of my stuff are quick stuff just to get the ideas out and move on as you put it. but still isn't an excuse for not making it good now is it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

sideshowmonkey In reply to sausage-of-joy [2005-09-28 17:50:47 +0000 UTC]

ha ha, sorry wasn't trying to be rude. Being a perfectionist wasn't meant to be an insult. Just saying that I probably didn't care about it as much as I should. But, I do agree that its messed up and I should go back into it but I probably won't. Got to move on the next thing before my head explodes. You know how it is.

yes I doo. for a second there I think I had you confused with another shit head though heh(no offence).
no heck I personally hate going back to pieces. just mind it in the future. quick sketch or not.
btw. been doing portraits lately check em out!

sideshowmonkey In reply to sausage-of-joy [2005-09-28 20:33:23 +0000 UTC]

Yea, i think when I do a piece I don't go back into it because I feel like its betraying my art, I just look at it and say "I need to try harder on the next pic." Don't look back, just move forward and try to learn from your mistakes. I keep everything I do and I like to go back and look at it to see what kind of mistakes I was making back 10 years ago and see if they've improved or not.

The portraits look cool. Although I do like your more stylised stuff better.

moonfreakformula In reply to sideshowmonkey [2005-09-29 01:58:49 +0000 UTC]

I really like the face on this piece because of the exaggeration. I haven't seen this movie in many years and right off I remembered the actor's face which I had completely forgotton about. I think Mr. Hartman has a great talent for captuing the essence of someone just from memory. In addition I don't think literal interpretation is needed when representing a famous person/character because for me, a stylized characterization is usually more interesting to look at than a near exact replica. I find that in more realistic interpretations of famed people, I tend to look for flaws in the artist's work rather than appreciate the study in which I'm sure they have labored over immensely and curiously, find fault in why I'm not looking at a photograph.

sausage-of-joy In reply to sideshowmonkey [2005-09-28 20:41:24 +0000 UTC]

yeah but it's fun with variation. and well understanding faces( the issue that was at hand earlier )
it was a good challenge though since I picked faces that were so different from each other. and hey if you ever run out of ideas just draw some portraits or real life anatomy... since you don't have to think of poses or motives haha.
but yeah I draw a hecka lot sometimes. idea floods. and I feel it's more fun keeping variety in ones works... get's more exiting that way and you widene your range of styles and stuff to draw with it.
