Cameron and Onyx had finally retired from fighting. Their entire lives were nothing but surviving, now it was just about living. Cameron went to bed after making sure that all their security was up, and all doors and windows were locked. Onyx had already made it to bed before him, so she was up waiting for him to come to bed. He smiled as he tiredly walked over to the mattress and collapsed. Onyx chuckled and put the blanket she had on over him as well. The two fell asleep
They awoke to a small and scared voice
“Momma! Pappa!” the voice called out
“You’re on kid duty. I had last night,” Onyx said
Cameron groaned and got up. Cameron walked into the room next door to his bedroom, and inside was his adopted daughter. His daughter had hidden herself under her blankets. Cameron took the blanket off her head, carefully as to not further spook her.
“What’s wrong, little cub?” Cameron asked
“I had a nightmare,” Aurora said
“What was it about?”
“Momma had been taken by humans. You and I were put into these cages and we watched each other being given these things in tubes of glass,”
“Don’t worry, my little aquamarine, that will never happen. Did I ever tell you the story of when I saved your mom from a hybrid trap?”
“N-No,”
“Well, your mother was born human. Her human parents were mean to her, so she fled. She lived in the forest just outside of Cilt, where I met her. She was hunting an animal when she stepped inside the trap, and I found her. It was your mom’s worst nightmare that she would be eaten by a hybrid. But she faced her fear and let me help her and take her back to Cilt, where we lived until we moved here,”
“Why did you move here?”
“That, little cub, you are too young to understand yet. I will tell you when you are older,”
“Thank you pappa,”
“Good night little one,”
“Good night,”
Cameron kissed Aurora’s head. When she fell asleep, Cameron returned to bed, cuddling into Onyx and fell back asleep.
