Fantastic composition

I once read that if you can incorporate an S bend into your photography (ie a river, road or some other natural kind of curve) you pretty much have a competition-winner. My eyes wanted to follow the bend and it drew me right in.

The lighting idea is great too, although the use of flash (if I'm right) has screwed a little too much with the contrast. With a stationary subject like this, it's a perfect excuse to use ambient light and a longer exposure.

Otherwise, I'd only change one other thing - and that's the order of just a couple of the pencils. I can see about 5 colours that disturb the flow... but they aren't foreign enough to be making their own statement.


I hope the critique is helpful. I only ever comment on DA when I'm inspired by the potential of a piece, so consider it a good sign!

Hahaha... very unique, it does look like a ad for crayola or something... it should have the sub-heading "color my world" or something... nice shot, very refreshing to see something simple yet extremely effective !!! Bravo!!
