During the first Great War, Princess Celestia wanted to keep Equestria neutral and didn't want to break from Isolationism. As the War raged on, Silas suggested that Celestia should do something to help bring an end to the war as death and destruction spreads throughout the world, that even Equestrian lives are danger. Celestia refused and wanted to keep the peace within the nation. However, over time, Princess Celestia then came to the decision to assemble an army once again, so that she can send the troops to help bring an end to the war so that there may be peace once again. General Silas Shield-Wing was appointed commander of the assault as the Equestrian Expeditionary Force are shipped out to Europe. However, the Equestrians had no experience with the war, compared to the other European countries, but with the command of General Shield-Wing, they managed to maintain a steady and organized force, especially on certain battles where Silas even took part on the trench assaults and lead the troops in battle at the front himself to help boost morale within the Equestrian trench lines.

Eventually, the assault to Germaney came to a close as the Germane Empire finally surrendered, bringing an end to the Great War. In the aftermath, Princess Celestia then formed the League of Nations, that way if any war or hostilities were to break out, they can be settled through diplomatic solutions rather than violent confrontations. With the war finally over, Princess Celestia then continued her Isolation policy and kept Equestria neutral from any world conflicts once again. With this, Silas then began to question the rule of the Princess, who he had been loyal to for centuries...until now.
