Reimu Hakurei vs Rin Kaenbyou
What if this game were made not just for modern Windows-based IBM-compatible PCs, but for a long-forgotten (well, not exactly long-forgotten to a sizeable gaming community) computing platform: the NEC PC-9801 family of computers?
This was a collaborative effort between me, two Deviants, one Pixiver, and one Twitter user as a favor to PMD98 musician RetroAddict , who arranged a unique cover of Orin’s theme making rare usage of ADPCM drums (something ZUN never did, even though it was available to him). All six of us (Retro included) are also Discorders:
Zo-me (for her portrait of Reimu Hakurei)
ABoringGuy64 (for his field sprite of Reimu)
saburo_yam (for his portrait and field sprite of Orin)
yoki (for his field background tiles depicting a fiery Former Hell)
I assembled all assets above into a GIMP 2.10 mockup (still adhering to the strict PC-98 color and tile-count restrictions), thus qualifying this as a genuine, plausible, hardware-correct “fakeshot”. The individual tiles, sprites, and portraits were drawn in other apps like Aseprite.
