Update: Now that I'm a bit more caught up (meaning I'm still not totally caught up as I haven't seen any of the newest season) and know that there is actually an official design for kirins, I decided to change around Moonstone's look to reflect this.

Personality:

Cool and collected, little seems to phase Moonstone. This laid back attitude is often coupled with disinterest however, making Moonstone hard to approach. He is sharp and likes to learn-- especially about magic and history.

Background:

Ever since Moonstone was born, Spike has been trying to instill the value of friendship in him. Unfortunately for his father, Moonstone hasn't been particularly receptive. The Kirin enjoys absorbing himself in research and doesn't see much point in interacting with other ponies. While this attitude has been an issue in some regards, it has allowed Starlight to teach Moonstone just about everything she knows about magic. This shared interest has strengthened their bond. The one exception that Moonstone has made regarding his friendship policy is Sunburst. After being introduced to the stallion via his mother, Moonstone took a liking to him and his books. Moonstone often stops by Sunburst's place to see if he's gotten anything new and interesting in.

Notes:

Moonstone's favorite thing to do is research. Books make him happy.

Spike and Starlight Glimmer ended up settling down in the Crystal Empire. Moonstone lives there too, technically, but he is prone to travel.

He considers Sunburst his best friend. (The age gap is of no concern to Moonstone)

His look is purposely androgynous. Moonstone just likes it. He also doesn't really care if people mistake him for a girl and won't bother correcting them.

Spike is a kind father full of good advice. Unfortunately, Moonstone doesn't usually heed that advice. He does love his father, but Moonstone thinks that learning about friendship isn't the best use of his time.

Starlight Glimmer

Starlight was only too happy to share what she learned about magic with Moonstone. Though his capacity for its actual use is limited by his dragon side, Moonstone's knowledge of it is encyclopedic. Because of that, the nature of their relationship has grown into a respected colleague sort of one. They love discussing theories and learning from each other.

Sunburst

Seeing as Sunburst is Starlight's oldest friend, she was sure to introduce Moonstone to him. Moonstone took an immediate interest in Sunburst's books and Sunburst was only too happy to share. To this day, Moonstone spends a lot of time visiting Sunburst, borrowing books, and discussing the contents of said books.
