Description
I painted this in 2016 (I think?). I wasn't going to post this originally (because the anatomy is pretty off among other things), but, considering the recent death of Mahsa Amini and the protests, I thought I would share.I was raised Muslim, but, around the time that I made this, I wasn't satisfied with how I was introduced to Islam. I resented the rules and my father for expecting me to be a good Muslim. I painted this as a way to push back. She is fully covered (following the rules), but she maintains her sensuality. No one and no religion can take away the essence of a woman from her.
Wearing a headdress should be a choice. I have no problems with Islam, but I do not like how it has been interpreted and used to control and oppress people.
