Description
This photo (and item) is three or four years old, so forgive a supernewbie's attempt at photography. My dad has always had a penchant for random periods of art, design, and architecture (1950's vinyl barber/dentist chairs were a thing for a while). Art Deco seemed to capture his attention more than most, and he requested an Art Deco key as an art present one year. My brother and I designed and constructed this sad little monkey as a result.
We looked at buildings and movie posters of the period, trying to pick out colors and shapes that defined the movement. It's quite large (three-ish feet end to end?) but unimpressively lightweight, being made mostly of cardboard and craft wood. I would certainly use different (better?) materials and techniques if I were to redo this today, but I like the basic design, and particularly my little hand-lettered plaque on the shaft.
