(Does little dance) "I love photoshop, I love photoshop..." Man I gotta get some sleep. Great image! A few questions: How many layers? Did you use the alpha channel technique to preserve transparency, or did you just go for it? The addition of colour in the reflections really sells it. My only concern is that with the image size, the bird looks a little pixel-y, but still a well thought out piece! Feel free to critique (please!) any of my photoshop stuff, too! Definitely going in my watch.

Sir-SiriX In reply to DarkSunDigital [2008-11-13 08:27:44 +0000 UTC]

Thanks.
1. Layers... Hmmm maybe 70 or 77 layers used here.
2. Aplha channel? No (: Only transparency and layers options (:

PS: How you made this Lino [link]

DarkSunDigital In reply to Sir-SiriX [2008-11-13 15:45:50 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, there's a great technique for maintaining opacity in an image layer: Make your transparency a selection with whatever tool you like,
then go to edit/copy merged and paste your transparent object on its own separate layer. Hold down command/control and click on that layer. (thmubnail)
Go to your channels palette and make a new channel. Click edit/paste, then click image/adjustments/levels
You need contrast between the shadows, highlights and mid tones (adjust black slider first) click ok. Then control/command click on the channel layer you just made. Turn off layer, (the transparency layer, not the channel layer) and leave your selection (marching ants) on. Make a new layer called transparent and fill it with white (option+delete on a mac) duplicate your transparent layer, then insert your image or whatever behind your transparent layer. Turn your original selection layer on and lower its opacity to bring back any detail that might have been lost. If it doesn't look right, step back and do the channel layers again. WHEW! it sounds complicated, but the end result is worth the effort!

I used the rhino image and another of a leopard roughly the same size, facing the same way. Then I put the leopard layer on top of the rhino, masked it and took out the background. Then whet you need to do is use the liquify tool on the leopard layer and push, pull and squish the leopard body so it fits the rhino, (I cut some parts off the leopard to use on the legs & head) and once you're happy with that, adjust your blend mode to either darken or multiply, do some spot (PUN totally intended) erasing on your layer mask to get rid of any crappy spots and you're done! That will be $5000.00 please.

DarkSunDigital In reply to Sir-SiriX [2008-11-13 17:27:08 +0000 UTC]

Yeah its a pain in the butt, but a good technique. I'm actually LEARNING stuff at school!
