Description
Hey now, a painting! Finally! This is a reworking of my old (old old old) piece Ultimate End. I've wanted to revisit that concept for a while but kept getting tied up in other projects. Well no more! There are a few photographic elements worked in here but the majority of this was painted by hand in Photoshop. Took about two and a half weeks to do.
Enjoy!
- DAILY DEVIATION UPDATE -
Hey, a daily deviation! Thanks all! For those who aren't familiar with my old work, this is a reworking of a piece called Ultimate End that depicted a massive stellar shockwave destroying planets. I somehow doubt the physics of the piece, but a spectacle it would certainly be. At Last Light is a update of that concept in my current style.
I've changed the uploaded file to a larger size for those requesting wallpaper resolution.

A really good work, I think. Powerful colors and beautiful contrast.
I see a face on the planet, is it normal? Near the shock-wave. Maybe is just my imagination...

I saw on your GFX Artist description that you were a little unsure on the composition of this piece. For my two cents i'd say that the larger elements (the largest planet, the explosion, the radial expansion of the blast) all fit in nicely; the lens flare artifacts suitably lead the eye from top left corner to bottom right corner. If there were anything that did begin to confuse the composition, i'd say it would be the smaller planets/moons. Their placement isn't all that dynamic, and hinders rather than lends to the overall structure. I think a simple movement of the four smaller spheres could help strengthen the composition.

Nice to see something new from you of course. The slick details and well done contrast values help this piece excel. Is this is based on that old picture of yours with the shockwave and many planets in front half-vapourised? I forgot the name of it - so I'm unsure if it's the one you referenced in the description. Eitherway, the shockwave here seems to have a better perspective than the old one I've seen from you.

Wicked contrast; the darkness and levels remind me of Kaioshen's work.
