Description This is my finished piece for the Art Institutes "Life is Better with Art in it" Poster Design. The objective was to create a visually-appealing poster that gave life to this phrase. My personal idea was that Artistic Talent grows with age and practice.

Life is better with art in it. Art is better with LIFE in it. The two ideas, Art and Life, have complimented each other since the beginning of time. People have used artistic creativity to form their interpretations of life; and, from the moment they pick up the pencil, paintbrush, or stick, life burst forth from their fingertips. My design personifies this idea.

An old man sits at his battered desk, his meager supplies scattered all around him. Before him lies a single tattered sheet of paper. The man is an Artist. He is very old, and has seen many years of practice and diligence. Pencil in hand, he makes a single stroke upon the paper. In a flash of brilliant light, the old man's world suddenly comes to life! A dragon, mighty and fierce, rises from the paper; his eyes like glowing embers and his teeth as sharp as broken glass. Birds soar above his desk, rejoicing in their escape from the paper's boundaries. Jagged mountains erupt from the paper, peaks adorned with snow. From one corner of the paper, a mighty river jets out from the desk, splashing against mossy boulders. Below the desk, a barren desert collides with the flowing river; plants spring up from the ground. Flowers of all colors sprout from the paper in dazzling glory. High above the amazed man, distant planets shine in the glow of countless stars. With a child-like smile on his face, the old man marvels at his creations.

This design shows viewers how an artist feels when his or her works truly come to life. In each artist, there is a blazing passion to forge a world that only they can see. Equipped with their imagination and their drawing tool, the artist can bring forth a world never before seen by anyone else. This is the joy of Artβ€”to breathe Life into drawings, paintings, and masterpieces. Anyone who looks at the old man can see the simple joy in his eyes as he witnesses all his practice, dedication, and perseverance come alive in front of him. To those who wish to be artists, I want my design to inspire them to keep driving forward toward their goal. Nobody becomes great overnight. Like the man's age, each individual person's talent must be grown into greatness over time, with practice and patience.
