Description
This is a simple "claymation" that I made out of boredom. I took what I had at hand, so I just started animating a ball of Blu-Tack and it turned out as a weird skull that... well, you can see for yourselves.I did some frame-blending in Adobe Premiere to make the animation more fluid, and added another blend so that it could repeat itself.

which point does the transition happen? Is it right before the skull or some where else?

The transition is before the skull, yes, when it's just a ball. You can see that the surface is a little rough right after the mouth has opened, and then it goes smooth before the skull appears. That's the transition.
