Description
The Judiciary Pokémon"Local legends state that looking into the burning star on PHOSPHOMET's forehead will reveal the sins the observer is guilty of. This standoffish Pokemon takes a long time to forgive those who committed felonies against it, even if such actions weren't that hurtful."
"Although it hates being bothered, it nonetheless refuses to attack anyone whom it knows has been treated unfairly. If you were cruel to those it has met, any fires near you will burn blue - a sign that it is coming for you and will haunt you until you've set things right."
"The supernatural flames around its neck, which burn as hot as magma, form into wings that set the air itself alight as it glides. A member of the Arbiter Trio, it is said that its restless, vengeful spirit is so fierce that only the pure of heart can stand a chance against it."

9/1/22 UPDATE: Touched up the design and added some additional lighting! You can find the original artwork here: sta.sh/0vvecea6yyr
Your Fire Starter has reached its final form! The Legendary Pokémon, PHOSPHOMET, has chosen you as its partner!
A bit late (okay, maybe several days late lol), but the G.O.A.T. is here, finally! Okay so, a while back, I said in a status update that I had to delay the release of the starter families for Kemet. While replacing the Water starter line completely was one of the reasons for that, the new design for the Fire starter seen above was the other one. The original final form of the Fire starter, which was the original reason for my choosing the goat of the Chinese Zodiac, was actually a retype and slight redesign of Criorander , one of my entries for Smogon's Create-A-Pokémon art contests, which is based on a Criosphinx, an Ancient Egyptian sacred creature with the body of a lion and the head of a ram. While I liked the design I came up with, I eventually hit a snag while trying to make the starter trio for Kemet make sense. I'll get more into that when I get to the Water starter, but long story short, I ultimately decided that using three different mythologies rather than just the one would be a better way of incorporating the themes and history of Kemet and its real-world inspirations. As such, I totally overhauled the design from the ground up, and I'm much happier with this one. If you want to see the original, here it is:
media.discordapp.net/attachmen…
The original connection between the typing I chose for the final form of this line, originally called "Solramun", was that the criosphinx is sacred to the ancient Egyptian god Amun, who is connected to the sun god Ra and whose name means "the invisible one". That did seem like a somewhat flimsy association, though, and it's probably a bit too drastic of a change compared to Brazaziel's look, and having two Egyptian mythical creatures as part of this trio while the third is from a different mythology wouldn't have made that much sense, so I had to look elsewhere for a more appropriate basis. Now, given that this line already had fire-based abilities and a goat as a basis, I knew exactly what to do for the new design. It wasn't easy coming up with a suitable look for my idea, and I'm not 100% on board with it, but I'd say the percentage of "on board"-ness is still in the mid-90's, because it's just too damn badass. This thing is like an edgelord's dream companion! Of course I had to balance out the "coolness" (an ironic term to refer to a Fire-type lol) with something "uncool", so I added the weird, almost dorky-looking features of the Damascus goat breed which originated in the Middle East, most notably the bulbous-looking forehead (though admittedly not as pronounced as in some actual Damascus goats) and especially the long, droopy ears. I think the slouching posture also offers a good balance, because a taller, prouder, fiercer stance would be too obvious and that's for the Water starter anyway. XD
But what is this thing based on, anyway? Well, once upon a time, the Knights Templar, a rather infamous inquisition which was involved in the Crusader invasions of Egypt, got accused of worshipping a deity known as Baphomet, who later came to be associated with demonic imagery. Depicted as a hybrid of human and goat traits with both male and female characteristics, his name is said to come from a garbled reading of the Muslim Prophet Muhammad, and the rather Muslim-phobic Crusaders had previously taken this misunderstanding and quite literally demonized it. The 1300s saw King Phillip of France decide to disband the Knights Templar and seize all their property, and one of the most famous things he did to aid in that course of action was to cook up a bunch of lurid and slanderous accounts of the Knights themselves worshipping Baphomet - who had had nothing to do with the issue otherwise and was only brought up in association with the Knights... who, again, had originally came up with him to condemn the Muslims. Sheesh, irony much? Now, what's the term for someone being saddled with blame by a larger group, often wrongfully? You guessed it, a scapegoat! With all of this information in mind, a demonic, somewhat anthropomorphic goat was the perfect way to cap off the Kinderlorn line, much better than "Solramun" anyway. Starting from a stylized Baphomet (basically a satyr with a goat head), I added in various elements associated with the Christian devil: a long, thin tail tipped with three prongs suggesting a pitchfork, draconic "wings" formed from the flames coming from his neck, rings of bone around the "wrists" of the front hooves like shackles as a nod to Satan being locked up in Dante's The Divine Comedy, a five-spiked collar like a pentagram, and a five-pointed fiery star on the forehead (which Baphomet also has in actual depictions of him). I couldn't work in the flaming third horn Baphomet also has because it would've over-designed an already complex fakemon, but I did carry over the burning horn tips from Brazaziel as a substitute. Lastly, I finished off this design with the skeletal motifs kept from "Solramun", particuarly the skull-like face and white rib-like protrusions around the torso - I know Fire/Dark would've made perfect sense, but Houndoom exists, Dark is already being used by one of Kemet's other final-stage Starters, and Ghost is the more appropriate type anyway given the connections to the afterlife, curses, and the occult and supernatural. Oh, and before people get in my face about a fakemon design based on Satanic iconography, two things worth reminding y'all of: 1) again, Houndoom exists, and 2) the "shackles", in common with Houndoom, are meant to invoke the idea that Phosphomet is being held under restraint, and the fact that you've captured and trained him essentially means you've conquered the Devil and can be seen as a vanquisher of evil. Who knows, perhaps you might even... redeem him?
Phosphomet is the specially oriented member of the Arbiter Trio, and his stat spread and the high number of special attacks in his moveset reflect this accordingly. The 100 Attack and 125 Special Attack are taken directly from Moltres, but I removed 10 points each from Moltres' 90 HP, 90 Defense, and 85 Sp. Def to get the BST down to 550 like the other members of the trio. I also decided to up his Speed a bit for him to be useful as a special sweeper, so I removed 10 more points each from the resultant Defense and Special Defense stats and added them to Speed. Essentially, Phosphomet is comparable to fellow Fire/Ghost-type Chandelure in terms of playstyle, but trades some Special Attack for physical Attack and defenses for Speed, offering more versatility but slightly less destructive power. For what it's worth, though, a well-aimed STAB Fire Blast backed up by that 125 Special Attack is still nothing short of terrifying, and STAB Shadow Ball is no slouch either, especially since unlike Fire Blast, Shadow Ball has 100% accuracy, though it isn't as powerful; the same can be said of Flamethrower, so if you prefer a guarantee that your foes will be damned to the fires of Hell and don't want Normal-types to stop you, it may be worth picking that over Fire Blast. Either option works, really. Heat Wave, Inferno, Overheat, and signature moves Fellfire and Temper Flare are also available, and the last one is especially valuable because it's basically a Ghost-type Scald, spreading burns is a nice bonus for someone so frail, and useful Ghost-type special attacks are few and far between anyway. It helps that Fire can neutrally hit Dark and Normal, which are resistant and immune to Ghost respectively, although the types that resist Fire are still a problem. Coverage options include Bulldoze, Stomping Tantrum, Brutal Swing, Revenge, Smart Strike, Heavy Slam, High Horsepower, Focus Blast, Psyshock, Revenge, Wild Charge, Dark Pulse, and even Outrage and Dragon Pulse (I wanted to find a way to include Dragon Breath, as a nod to one of the divine sheep from the Book of Revelation that was said to speak like a dragon, but I'm still not sure how). Smart Strike and Wild Charge can take on Rock and Water respectively, but he doesn't have any options for Ground, so one Earthquake will no doubt be very bad news for him. Oh well. He does get some support and boosting options like Will-O-Wisp, Nasty Plot, Calm Mind, and Agility, but I don't feel confident in using Phosphomet for support duty due to his poor defenses. Besides, I suppose he probably wouldn't care for team support, and if anything I'm sure he'd be much happier taking advantage of that massive Special Attack and incinerating everything in sight! Do you dare to deal with this dreadful deadly demon?
One more member of the Arbiter Trio remains! I'll try to get that one posted this week, but no promises yet - I'm still trying to fend off art burnout from my IRL concerns, same as always. We'll see, everyone. We'll see!
