Description "The flames trailing from its mouth like reins can only be safely held by those it trusts. It shares common descent with both PONYTA and MUDBRAY, and was once thought to be their offspring."

"Herds of these fierce Pokemon roam the desert, looking for trouble. In contrast to a famous saying, wild DESPERONCO can and do drag people far from the safety of their loved ones during robberies."

"It regrets the time it spent causing mayhem, and protects the weak as penance for its past mistakes. What appears to be arms growing from its neck are strands of hair that it can set alight in battle."

I decided to do the second (and third!) entry for LavaSpecter 's starter contest after all! Once again, their request was for starters for a region based on Oregon - the Grass Starter should be medieval-themed, the Fire Starter Western-themed, and the Water Starter pirate-themed. Given the Chinese Zodiac fanon for the Fire Starters holding up for the time being, it was either the horse, sheep, ox, or snake, but I already did the snake in a previous albeit outdated design, have plans for a fire sheep already for Kemet, and didn't want to step on the figurative toe of Bogleech of his eponymous website and his absolutely perfect idea for a Fire starter cow sheriff. So the horse was the only one left, but I wanted to distinguish it from the Ponyta line, and a straight donkey was out of the question thanks to Mudbray. Buuuuut... since the Starters are represented by just a single specimen per game... what if we used a mule instead, like a crossbreed between Kantonian Ponyta and Mudbray? I then mixed in elements of an old Classical satyr - which actually weren't bipedal goats originally, but had horse traits instead! - and finally a centaur in the last one along with classical desert sandstone for the Rock typing, but I don't think the former was explicit enough. Maybe a longer neck would've made it clearer? Anyway, I've already drawn the Water starters too, so those should be finished up soon, but for now I hope these high-noon horsies deliver! YEEHAW!

The name origins are as follows:
  • Jackash: "Jackass" + "Ash"
  • Desperonco: "Desperado" + "Bronco"
  • Centauriff: "Centaur" + "Sheriff"
