#8: Chancellor Cole/Malladus

"This vessel... is... rejecting my spirit. I'm... slipping from it... I can't hold on for long... but the world will crumble in the time i have left!"

Where I found Dethl and Bellum boring and tacked on, and Veran and Onox good villains but not end boss material, Malladus I actually liked... well except for looking like the love child of Blanka and Wario.

I felt the game did a good job of building up Malladus and getting to see Cole throughout the entire game, who later becomes Malladus' vessel helped further that. Cole was such a twisted little freak, I liked that in the end he WAS the final boss, yet at the same time got his just desserts in being so.

While in a way, Malladus does feel a bit tacked on, I guess he makes sense though. If we're to believe that Ganon is finally "dead" or at least several leagues under the sea with the Master Sword permanently stuck in his head, then there needs to be a new evil to plague the new continent. I enjoyed that Malladus, unlike Ganon was a faceless evil. He had no real form, his spirit had to take over others and became an incarnation of that person.

I'd have no problem if Malladus remained the villain of the games continuing in Wind Waker's vain. I include him in what I like to call "The Unholy Triforce" No, not the CD-i games, but the actual unholy Triforce. I figure if there are three primary goddesses of good, shouldn't there be one of evil? Ganon is well established, I could see Malladus being another part of it... but who is the third? We'll find out...
