Description
I enjoy ballet and figure skating for essentially the same reasons; gorgeous choreography and gorgeous costuming. For many years, my mother and I would see the Nutcracker during Christmas, and I think that's what started it. Anyway, I like hanging out at coffee shops, and on Christmas Eve afternoon, I went to Starbucks to hang out a bit and do some tablet sketching. I was trying to decide what to sketch, and "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" started playing, so I drew a dancer. In my mind, she's dancing the part of said fairyThis started as a light anatomy exercise... and somehow became an actual artistic endeavor. Since I skimped on the last picture's background, I took about an hour just on the background here. I'm most impressed with how the floor turned out, as it lends a sense of perspective that my drawings often lack. It seems that drawing backgrounds causes one to get better at it - who'd've thunk? o.O
