In addition to all the work at the stable, Zane decided to get more involved with the community and started doing volunteer work. They volunteered down at the local shelter, going and walking the dogs, cleaning runs and feed and watering the dogs and cats and other small animals which resided at the shelter. Zane also volunteered down at the local library, in a buddy reading program where he would read to younger children and help them learn how to read, as well as doing other planned activities with the kids. There was also 4H in which Zane was involved in, not really volunteer work, but their group often did various acts of kindness and Zane was working their way to a leadership role in the group. They also visited elderly homes and the hospital. Recently Zane even took on a young Labrador male, training him to be a future service dog. Zane was glad it was summer time and they had so much free time to do all this work and volunteering, though they had mixed feelings about the coming of fall and starting of school as Zane would be attending the public school for the Junior year and it would be his first year at the school.

Today Zane and Chip were at the elderly home, doing some service dog training, mainly just the basics, getting used to different surroundings as well as new objects and people. Chip walked next to Zane, eyes bright and curious as he looked around his new surroundings. His nose and whiskers twitched with all the new smells. He perked his ears, listening to the various sounds and gave a soft whuff as a worker came over and greeted Zane. After speaking for awhile, Zane and Chip went walking around, taking things slow and introducing him to new people and things.
