Scientists working jointly at Oscorp Industries and LexCorp had developed a super-strength serum made up of a Bane-venom derivative and gamma-laced blood samples taken from Dr. Banner. Norma Childs, an unhappy personal assistant to one of the top scientists, had serious inferiority issues.   It was only natural then that when an opportunity presented itself, Norma took the formula. A combined task force made up of JLers and Avengers seized the serum.  They arrested Norma, but she was released. Oscorp and LexCorp declined to prosecute her. Without their cooperation, there was no case against her.

The serum had increased her mass, her strength, and, unlike the Hulk, it raised her IQ.   On the downside it magnified her dark tendencies, including her inferiority complex.  This, in turn, has prompted her to establish her own sense of worth by besting the world's top superheroines. Wonder Woman attempted to befriend her. Her success proved short-lived. Adopted by the Amazons, their frequent competitions overwhelmed Norma and her latent issues.

The effects of the serum were also deemed to do much of a drastic change for her body to handle. Estimates ranged from three to five years before her body exhausted itself. She now resents the Avengers and the Justice League for not in her opinion doing more to find a cure.   She has already kidnapped a number of scientists, forcing them to divulge info which she believes may allow her to have a full life.

To date Enorma has successfully knocked out and kidnapped for ransom Wonder Woman, Power Girl, She Hulk, and Ms. Marvel. She is currently at-large and being sought by Ms. Victory, Black Cat, Blackwidow, and Cammy.
