I thought I'd try joining the Arcane Idol Challenge, this is my first serious OC design ever!

Wow, SERIOUSLY I've never thought I could do it. This time my ego really only becomes an observer - the character came to life by itself (although maybe there's some of my traits to in him lol)! Some part of the story, character's personality, etc maybe a cliche but I'm personally happy with how this came out nevertheless!

-- CHARACTER DETAILS --

Name:

Raydn

(from "ray" = "light")

Species:

A forever-child-like elf, protector of an enchanted forest.

As a descendant of the privileged "Manifestor Elves" he doesn't need to eat anything, only sunlight needed to recharge his energy. Can live until 200 years and still got that child face, no sign of old age of all sorts except maybe the decreasing energy.

Talents & Skills:

1. Lucid imagination / photographic memory + ability to bring / manifest whatever being imagined, but only if the imagined objects are real not fiction.

2. When it comes to places he can also "manifest" them but limited to 3D holographic projection.

3. Physical agility & playfulness, makes him a great entertainer: he plays performances where he'd holographically project a place as the stage (e.g. his home forest) and bring forth and return objects coming from the original place in a playful way.

Magical Talisman:

He doesn't really have or need a magical talisman since he comes from a privileged line of "Manifestor Elves" - the elves who have got the talent to manifest any object being imagined (provided it exists for real, not fantasy). His ability comes from his third eye beneath his forehead (talisman embedded in the body), when he wants to make an object appear he then transferred the vision to his hands, with the help of the gloves opening a dimension gateway where the object would come through (explanation below).

Equipment:

A pair of gloves with "Eye Vortex" logo in the palm, given by his parents before they died (every manifestor elf can create one themselves if they know the technique).

They serve as the gate opener, when Raydn imagine a place vividly with the natural "magical talisman" (his third eye) the gloves will help focus the energy to bring anything he intended to where he is in the moment via the vortexes. He can open multiple vortexes and also close them anytime, this basic talent combined with his playful spirit makes a great stage performance.

-- BACKSTORY --

(An Innocent-Face with Dark History)

Raydn is the last one left of "Manifestor Elves", his every other family were perished in the hands of humans when they exploited and eventually burnt their home forest out of greed. With heart boiling with dreams of revenge he managed to find other enchanted forest also full of magical creatures and more secluded where he plans to live life in peace. At that time he hasn't got the proper training yet on mastering his gifts, only deemed them as useless since he's got no need to go anywhere outside the forest and everything he needs nature has already given.

One day though he encountered a kind human boy who later be his only friend (aside from the forest animals, yes he can talk to them). Thanks to the curious kid, Raydn (no longer a kid but still having the child-like face & personality, maybe that's where he fells the similarity with the boy) managed to venture outside his forest and see other sides of human life, which is apparently not every one of them are monsters. But the human kid's parents turns out greedy opportunists.

The boy's dad at one point managed to stalk them deep into the forest (of which location is supposed to be secret, only Raydn and the little boy should know). Upon the discovery he plans to open the forest for public and make huge profit with it, like some kind of zoo of freaks. Thankfully a few days later his son overheard his dad's chats with his business partners about his plans and he soon warns Raydn.

Raydn feels a wave of mixed of chaotic emotions once again, can't help feeling betrayed, he just CAN'T lose his home again to the monsters! But the greedy entrepreneurs don't waste time, the next day they arrived near the forest with huge machines & tools. The little boy even bravely tried to stop his dad and peers to destroy his elf friend's home, but the ambitious ones can't be stopped.. until at one point the father shook the agitated kid off his hands, accidentally throwing him under a running earth-flatting machine and killed him instantly!

At that point Raydn can't take it anymore, he's now blind with rage. Doesn't matter that the father gets also deeply shocked, doesn't matter that everyone else around gets to realize how wrong they are and totally rethink their greedy plan to exploit the forest. Raydn's now gets to master the third eye through the extreme way: he deliberately imagine the belly of an active volcano and manifest the fire and lava, pouring the hell loose to everything in front of him - the people, the machines, about half of the entire city!

The remaining citizens gets terrified by the ravaging 'little' wizard soon fled and in less than 2 weeks the place becomes a ghost town. Raydn's forest is totally intact and the animals are all well protected but is surrounded by the cold lava and what waste left of the city, which later eventually makes the ground fertile and thus the forest is expanding throughout the abandoned city. As Raydn gets to master his gifts he's also learned to project holographic images without actually manifesting them - a skill he's now using to 'shield' his beloved beautiful forest from unwanted attentions. He'd project some uninteresting vista surrounding the forest, like a simple plain savannah or a whole city in ruins.

Raydn has come through yet another tragedy but this time he refuses to be a hermit, he's learned something. The friendship was was worth it however shortlived, and the little boy has inspired him to explore beyond. The curiosity is still there, despite the hardship Raydn's now got the wanderlust. If there's such thing as a magical talsiman, it would be his friend's brave spirit - to Raydn he's worth more than his own actual magical gifts (and apparently it's the incident that awakened his magical power). Who knows what other worthy adventures & discoveries waiting beyond the horizon? Heck could there be another unique creature like him with whom he could share his life?

Now he's got an idea to fund his passion for travel ('coz he hasn't improve his skills to teleportation yet and he still needs money to rent a room wherever city he goes to): he'd become a travelling conjurer / magician, performing on the streets, but with the main purpose of raising humans' awareness of forest lives!

-- HOW EXACTLY HE PERFORMS --

1. (Before the "curtains' closed" he'd pray for his friend's spirit, dedicating his performance for him.)

2. He'd imagine his now safe home, the enchanted forest, vividly, focusing on this third eye. He'd project the 3D imagery of the place, every complex detailed movements, even including the sounds, onto the stage where he currently is. It's a hologram so can't really interact with the audience.

3. At the same time with the help of the gloves he'd then expand the energy from the third eye, transfer it to the gloves / hands, opening a vortex or vortexes where an object or objects intended to appear would appear. The objects he usually bring out real are his forest friends whom happily train and perform with him, spreading the message around the world about the importance and beauty of the perserved forest life, and the importance of humans leaving them in peace & harmony.

4. He's got the physical aglility, flexibility, and playfulness to play with the multiple vortexes and objects - just like a skilled magician but with real magic of objects & animals appearing and vanishing!

5. With the same magic he'd return his friends, the forest animals, back home (and gets the money - ka-ching! - no, he has no ill feelings towards money, only monstrously greedy humans!). Sometimes he'd go to a secluded but open space, then call the animals to train with him, only when they really want to of course. Since Raydn has no need for food (only sunlight), he has not much need for money either aside for transport and rent for a room when he travels so there's no pressure (later he'd develop the skill for teleportation anyway). He somehow manages to maintain the protective "mirage shield"'s existence surrounding the forest even when he's not there (another hidden skill developing?).

-- SIDE EFFECTS --

Like it or not Raydn has to master his emotions & gifts because with the vivid imagination / photographic memory he could instinctively imagine dangerous places when he's feeling angry, sad, or such (volcanoes, places on fire, abyss of an ocean, etc) and inadvertently bring forth the disasters for real to himself and those around him!

-- POTENTIAL DEVELOPMENT --

* As Raydn gets older (but will always have the child-look) he gets to master the energy transfer for manifestation without the gloves.

* His skill improves from manifesting real objects to manifesting imaginary objects (even people!)

* His skill improves from bringing objects to his current place to teleporting himself to places, surely comes in handy for travels!
