I wake up in the middle of a forest, flinching in pain. I can't remember much of what happened - just a loud, "thunk" and then darkness. I force my eyes open, checking my surroundings . . .

*My vision blurs, and it takes me a few minutes to realize I'm underwater.
[Why . . . why aren't I drowning?] I wonder vaguely. I don't care too much about the answer. My head is too heavy to lift. My entire body is too heavy. I sink into the soft mud of the lake bottom, shutting my eyes as a cloud of gritty sand scrapes through my teeth. [I've got to find help . . . I have to . . .] I mumble silently to myself.
But I'm not sure much help I'll find underwater. I wince in pain and pull my legs closer to my chest, falling into a fitful sleep . . .*

*As I pull my legs closer, my eyes snap open in shock. I open my mouth in a scream - only to hear a loud, "VAAAYY!" burst from my lips.
[Is that me?] I wonder silently. I glance up at the surface of the water, watching the swirling ripples distort the sky above. It would be easy now for me to swim up to the fresh air above, but somehow, I don't want to. The water runs comfortably through my fur, and before I know it, the urge to play overtakes me. "VAY! VAY! VAY!" I squeal, rolling in circles through the cool lake water.
Whatever had happened before no longer seems to matter. I swish my tail playfully and swim in circles, suddenly hungry. There has to be some food around here somewhere.*

*You look carefully across the lakebed for fish*

*I scan the muddy sand of the lakebed, searching for a bite to eat. Suddenly, a tiny, colorful fish swims by, goading me on to hunt it. "VAPEREON!!" I screech, streaking towards my prey. My claws slash into its spine, slicing through the thin flesh, and my mouth follows a second later. The fish doesn't struggle; it's already dead. I let myself float up to the surface and then flip over onto my back, enjoying my meal.
After a few minutes, I swallow the last of the fish, licking my chops. I lick my paws and rub my face with them. Now that I'm full, I can concentrate on more important matters . . .*

*I swim around the lake in circles for a while, not sure what to do. With a full belly and almost no memory of what happened before I transformed, all I feel is confused.
And lonely. There don't seem to be any other PokΓ©mon around . . . or people, for that matter. I have no one to tell my story to. No one to be friends with and go on adventures together. No one to help me.
I keep swimming in circles, my fins drooping. I don't know what else to do. I let out a low, "Vaay . . .", and the tear that rolls down my cheek evaporates into the water. It'll be night soon, and I have nowhere to stay. What if there are unseen dangers in the night . . .?*
