AS A CHARACTER
Magenta and their life companion Verdi were created in a dnd setting, but I'm in the process of creating their own lore and separating them from dnd.
Magenta was an NPC in a game I ran for my friends.

BACKSTORY
Magenta comes from a community of changelings, called the Eeridaessi. Changelings are people that can assume other appearances. Pictured in the profile is Magenta's natural form.
Magenta's name (alluding to the color) is part of a tradition, as each family chooses names associated with given colors, and the exact naming conventions vary depending on the generation.
Some of the Eeridaessi reside in the plan of the fey - the Feywild, colorful, dangerous, and magical. Others live on what we would call our plane, together with other humanoids.

Magenta was born and raised in the Feywild. However, due to their parents' separation and complex rules of fey custody, at some point in their childhood it was time for them to move to the human realm with their parent, Leelac, an ambassador to the humans, a person who was very enthusiastic about sharing a life with them. Magenta suffered quite a bit of a cultural shock. Life got a little easier once they met their new friend and future partner, Verdi, who helped them find their way as a changeling in a human society.

The peaceful coexistence of changelings and humans had at some point been disturbed by misunderstandings, growing suspicion and paranoia, until it culminated in The Purge when the humans attempted to slay and eradicate the changelings.
Most changelings fled to the Feywild, including Magenta's family. Magenta stayed behind because of Verdi, who was unable to cross and got wounded in the chaos.

Being the only member of the ambassador family left on this side of the world, Magenta's family saddled them with taking over the changeling-human ambassador duties. Suddenly, they had to take on an entirely new role, one they did not train for before. It was a challenging adjustment to them, especially considering their shy nature.

In recent years, Magenta suffered a life-changing accident. They were traveling to an ambassador summit, but due to an incident they suffered frostbite from cold and fell overboard. They were saved by a kraken who made it able for them to breathe underwater and gave them powers - Magenta became a warlock of that kraken, whose name is Shagnatosh. The frostbite cost them tips of their fingers and toes.

During that whole misadventure Magenta met a pack of mimics and started working with them and training them. Magenta was always fascinated by misunderstood creatures, and the mimics reminded them of their own people, changing shape, demonized. Even among their own Magenta felt alienated, and this new found family of mimics and a kraken made them feel alive.

As a kraken warlock, Magenta started going by "Magenta of the Deep".

The relationship with Verdi is its own story. Both changelings got trauma, different coping mechanisms and love languages, and a series of poor decisions and misunderstandings had caused a rift between them more than once. Where Verdi yells out their pain to the world and demands everyone do the same, Magenta shuts off and stays silent about what's bothering them.

Eventually, they start to work it out and build a healthier, better relationship for both of them. What can I say. Therapy for all OCs!

PERSONALITY
Magenta is a quiet, mellow person. They can put on a professional persona, but when it comes to their own preference, they would rather stay away from crowds and spend time with their loved ones (Verdi, mimics, and Shagnatosh). They love learning fun facts, especially about the natural world.

A healthy Magenta is a very chill, calming presence. They feel strongly about their passions and can ignite that fire in others. They got a strong sense of responsibility and the need to protect the weak and the misunderstood. They are loyal, patient, and open to others' points of view.

An unhealthy Magenta builds a wall between themselves and the world. They don't communicate, instead literally running away and hiding from their problems. They let anger and resentment build up until it explodes in a destructive magical display. They also take too much responsibility upon themselves and suffer the consequences of neglecting their own wellbeing. They become self-loathing and lose a sense of their own identity, which is especially hard for a changeling.

GUESS WHO EXPLAINED
- Magenta is an ambassador who was traveling to a summit, but due to an incident they suffered frostbite from cold and fell overboard. They were saved by a kraken who made it able for them to breathe underwater and gave them powers - Magenta became a warlock of that kraken, whose name is Shagnatosh. - Magenta came home to Verdi, their partner; Verdi is extremely concerned but Magenta claims to be fine, showing their tendency to sweep problems under the carpet
- before meeting the kraken Magenta was a not a human but a changeling, but I did not focus on that in the guess who, seeing as there was already a lot going on
