Entry 1
I've been following and observing a very interesting specimen of the Tyrannosauridae family. A young adult I've dubbed Kar-Vaska, He is the strangest rex I've ever seen.
Not only does his back sport a strange carapace but his behavior is equally as strange. Most rexes tend to travel and hunt in packs, But Kar-Vaska tends to keep to himself. Preferring to be alone as opposed to being around of his species. In the few instances I've seen him around other rexes usually tends to end in bloodshed.
Also, he seems to pay the herbivores and omnivores in his hunting grounds no mind and they do the same to him. The young-ling spends the majority of his time expanding his hunting ground, pushing all other predators that pose a threat out of his territory.
As a matter of fact it's the only time I ever see him eat. He only eats after a battle, if he killed his enemy he'll consume them regardless of species. If he doesn't he will scavenge for food eating recently abandoned kills.
People have called me crazy in the past for the way I conduct research. Instead of keeping distance and watching through a lens, I like to get as close as I can.
Conducting this form of research is the only way I've learned this much about Kar-Vaska and...I've gotten so close to this rex that if I wasn't hiding in the brushes I could have reached out and touched him. Which is strange, Tyrannosaurus are normally VERY territorial creatures if it were any other specimen I would have surely been eaten.
Also...I-I think he knows...I think Kar-Vaska knows I'm following him. When I was watching from a safe distance he would go about his day as I've already explained. Moving from hunting ground to hunting ground expanding his own. But once I got closer to him his behavior changed and he began to avoid the larger predators like other rexes. He would go WELL out of his way to avoid those areas.
Is he protecting me?...No, no I must be going crazy...It's been so long since I've seen another human I must having a case of Personification...
Entry 2
It's been 2 weeks since I started observing Kar-Vaska, after further investigation into his behavior him convinced he much more intellegent than any other animal on this island. He patrols a certain route every single day. Starting from his den on the northern end of the island. He starts by heading east and goes about 5 miles into the crags before turning south and patrolling the nearby swamp lands. If it wasn't for my training in the marines there's no way in the Lord's name I would be able to keep up with him.
The majority of the animals don't seem phased by the massive predator treading through their homelands. The herbivores and omnivores seem to treat him like a guardian. Giving him space but not fleeing like they fear for their lives. They simple move out of the way giving about 100 feet of space as he moves past.
When he encounters a carnivore it's not pretty.
Normally he move relatively slow taking his time on his patrol, but when he so much as smell another predator he kicks into a different gear. His eyes burning with anger like a wild fire, his stride get longer, and he stops for NOTHING.
Upon finding the intruder he lets out a roar as a warning. If the predator stands its ground he moves in, no matter how big the target, Just the other day he charged a pair of Carnotaurus.
They didn't last 5 minutes. They had the advantage of speed, but no matter how fast they moved around him and tried to attack him from both sides he always had a counter. He's like an indestructible tank.
P.S.
Just last night Kar-Vaska confirmed my suspicions. I was hiding in a brush and he was headed back to his den, and something came over. I don't know what it was but, something possessed me to come out of hiding. My crossbow on my back, journal in hand. I was only about 30 feet away from him. He could have easily step forward and taken my life but he seemed to straight his posture, not appearing so slumped over and looking depressed like he normal does.
He...he stared directly at me. Not at me as in looking at me like I was a herbivore or omnivore. We locked eyes. Then he started to walk again but this time, slower. Much...MUCH slower.
Just slow enough were I could jog at a steady pace and keep up. If I would have took off running I would have been able to get neck and neck with him.
But that's not what confirmed it completely.
Judging by the moon it was around 11 when we got back to his den. His den is a massive, yet shallow cave in the side of a hill on the northern end of the island.
He usually would walk right in without another thought and disappear for the night. That's when I'd set up camp for the night in the tree line.
But last night he stopped at the entrance, he looked back and again locked eyes with me. You know that shine that people have in their eye? That shine that tells you there's sentience in someone's mind?
He has the shine. It was like looking into my grandfathers eyes. Eyes full of wisdom, but clouded by pain.
...BUT, getting to the point before I ramble on even more.
He huphed and moved his head back to face forward, but he had a jolt to his head like someone waving their hand for someone follow.
I...I spent the night in the nest of Tyrannosaurus Rex.
