Description
So I meant to get to this earlier but totally uhm didn't, so... uhh... But yeah I saw XxStarDrawzxX asked me about how I do my stripes on my cats, so I made a little thing for that request and anyone else that might be wondering! It's not a super comprehensive tutorial or anything, but I hope it offers a little insight regardless!! Also just in case my handwriting sucks to read I'll put the text in here for y'all ^^--------------------
How I draw Tabby Stripes (semi-tutorial ig)
Firstly, I recommend looking at references for ideas! Stripe patterns vary depending on the cat! (For the example here tho, I'm gonna do a mackerel tabby)
1. Start with the base color!
2. Get a darker shade to color the stripes with!
3. Now, I use Krita, so I tend to use this brush [Pencil-6 Quick Shade] since it has a nice rough look, but any brush like this will work if you're wanting the kind of style I do! (Just some kind of charcoal/pencil brush that's pressure sensitive)
4. Start striping! To get my look I kind of draw in a zig-zag thicker at the base and thinning out at the ends. [More pressure at the top, least pressure at the bottom]
5. Fill in as much/little as you want, however dense you want the pattern to be. Remember that for the most part, on the torso the stripes "wrap down" from the spine. Bands on the legs and tail can go all the way around, or not!
6. Additionally, if you're doing a a torbie (tortoiseshell tabby), have the stripes match the colored patches they're on!
And just have fun! Don't worry about the stripes looking perfect or anything. As long as you like how they look, you're all set! I hope this helps a little!!
