Description
This semester has already been one of the craziest semesters in my 6 year long college career… BUT I am extremely excited to be getting the chance to make a full length animation!! The animation is going to be called Mine and here are the two main characters, Coal and Jewel… I am in love with these two. IT FEELS SO GOOD TO WORK ON CHARACTER DESIGNS!! <3
Get ready to see plenty more of these two OC’s in the next couple of months! (And I’m nearly finished with the base coloring for the next Reminiscence page. Thanks for being so patient.)

Looks really good, but Jewel seems maybe a bit too... Flat and simple compared to Coal.
Coal looks really three dimensional with how is clothes puff up around him and his accessoires, they give him a real feel of depth.
Jewel looks nice, but compared to coal she doesn't have that same three dimensionality to her. Not even any clothing folds.
I get that this is probably a stylistic choice to increase the contrast between them. But maybe add a small thing on her clothes to give it some depth, and also give yourself and the audience a reference point to see what direction she's facing. Like some sort of belt, it would weigh on the cloth creating a few folds. And probably be helpful for thing like bending, running or sharp camera angles.

Jewel does have a hair pin. Assuming it's always on her right, the presence and visibility of it- or lack thereof- should tell us where she's facing.

True, but it is very small. It would still help with where she is facing, you're right about that.
I suppose I'm more concerned about her waist, since it is pretty important to show motion and twisting. And if the dress is too euh... clean I suppose.
It will be hard to see much difference between rotation, bending, etc. Around the waist.

I don't know why they remind of Laputa Castle in the Sky, but that's a real good sign in my book - they look adorable!

as maybe a little help, you should make the hands and arms a bit bigger, hold your hand next to your face, see how big a hand actually is compared to your face
