Description Tada! After nearly being completely void of artistic clarity or inspiration...I have finally submitted a new piece of work! OMG! I am extremely proud it.

I am finally learning Photoshop instead of Paintshop; I have a new Intuos 4 tablet which is actually even better than the Intuos 3 I had; and I now have dual monitors so I can have my inspiration visuals on 1 monitor and my drawing on the other. Ahh. Beautiful life.

"Serious" is a study of a photograph by entitled "Dirt" ... or should I just say I used the photograph as a reference since it didn't turn out like a replica. Either way, since I am still learning how to draw properly and getting used to Photoshop, I decided I would start using references to do my drawings. I am not talented enough to reproduce the image exactly -- I could never draw a celebrity and have it really be recognizable as that person. But who cares? I like to add my own artistic license to the work anyway. So that's what I did.

And I realize, that the skin isn't perfect, and I had a lot of trouble with the neck and shoulder area and collar bone...but I was thrilled with the hair, eyebrow, eyes, lips, nose (yes it's wide on the right side but whatever) and love the earring that I designed on my own without any reference!

I really liked the original photograph and thought it wasn't too complex for me to start with...especially since I am really rusty with my digital drawing (having had been without a working computer for a year). I am not exactly all that skilled yet in shadows and skin so it was a challenge for me to do this, simple as it is. But I am pretty happy with the results and LOVE LOVE LOVE Photoshops amazing brush tools and presets. This was done using a simple round brush, usually with a lot of softness, set as an airbrush, low flow, and high but not 100% opacity. All I did was mess around with the brush size and hardness. The end result made me realize that all the things many talented artists here on DA say are true: You don't need all those fancy brushes to paint .. in fact, you're almost better to not use them if you really want to achieve a painted look. I love brushes and have collected thousands and like them for certain things but I can see with painting, less shapes are better.

Well that's pretty much it! I am pleased and hope you enjoy looking at it. Oh..this took me approx 6 hours to complete. Phenomenal for me.
