Numbuh Three-sixty-two watched as Lawrence flagged down a small electric buggy, she stepped into the back of the vehicle and sat down. The driver turned the buggy around and then drove through the hangar that contained the WarMechs and a large number of armored vehicles such as jeeps, tanks, APCs and what looked like helicopters with multiple rotors.
"Slasher Attack Quadrocopters and Triad Rotary Gunships," Lawrence said, looking back at Numbuh Three-sixty-two. "Thought that we should bring a few of them along for air support."
"How do they fly?" she asked as she looked at the unusually shaped Slashers.
"Individual motors for each rotor," Lawrence replied, "They don't look it but those things are very agile."
Numbuh Three-sixty-two decided to stay quiet as they passed into the third section of the hangar that contained a large number of UKA fighter planes. She looked over the rows of fighter planes and saw what looked like large cargo planes and bombers sitting in the center of the hangar. They appeared to have their wings detached which would explain how they got them so close together. She leaned back in the chair and tuned out Lawrence talking to the driver, without warning the buggy made a sharp turn and proceeded down a low and wide corridor until they stopped in front of a small room, on the other end of the room were the doors to an elevator.
"Here you go sir," the driver said, "This security elevator should get you to the bridge with no delay."
"Thanks soldier," Lawrence said as he stepped out and walked over to the elevator. Numbuh Three-sixty-two was about to step out of the buggy as well when the driver turned around to face her.
"Um…can I ask why General Rogers is wearing swimming trunks and barefoot?"
"Beach party," Numbuh Three-sixty-two replied as she stepped out of the buggy. The driver sighed then shook his head.
"I swear he gets weirder every time he visits here."
The driver left her standing outside the room, she turned and jogged to catch up to Lawrence who was pushing the button to call the elevator furiously.
"Come on, come on," he muttered, "Honestly, I have no idea why the elevators in this ship are so slow."
Numbuh Three-sixty-two stayed quiet as she looked at him. She didn't notice the scars on his arm until he started trying to push the button again, most of them looked like they had been from grazing hits from either shrapnel or bullets, there was a more recent looking scar on his neck; it looked like a circular burn mark. Numbuh Three-sixty-two stared at it for a few seconds before Lawrence looked at her. "What?" he asked as he took a step backwards.
"Oh, sorry. You've got something on your neck."
"It's nothing," Lawrence said quickly, covering up the mark with his shirt and blushing slightly.
"Is something wrong?"
"It was just an accident in chemistry class last week."
"But I thought that you just got back from a war," Numbuh Three-sixty-two asked. Lawrence groaned a little and blushed more.
"Okay, okay! I got shot in the neck by a KND Operative!" He said loudly, looking away from her, "The kid who did it managed to sneak up on me. I had little time to react, alright?" He sighed heavily then slumped down onto the floor. "I hate getting shot, it just reminds me that no matter how many battles I partake in. One small slip-up and I'm dead, that's it. My whole life gone in a second. Do you have any idea how many times I've nearly died and then have everything that you've worked tirelessly on for the whole duration of your life collapse within mere days? I'm not invincible, Rachel. If I die in any of these battles then you and Kids Next Door will all be killed along with the Adults before the UKA turns on itself, disbands or goes into hiding."
"Wait…so what you're saying is that if you get killed then the UKA will kill us all?"
Lawrence nodded sadly. "Its technically classified information but I can tell you that upon my death, every single high ranking officer of the UKA is instructed to terminate any and all enemy factions before going into hiding until a new replacement is made. I know that not all of the UKA will uphold my last dying wish but there are enough troops who are loyal to me who will do as I say and kill the enemy factions. And by enemy factions, that means you guys as well as the Adults."
"Why though, what's the reason behind that?" Numbuh Three-sixty-two asked. Lawrence stared at the floor, a dark and haunted look crossing his face.
"To prevent any and all hostile factions wanting to take over the UKA for their own gain."
Numbuh Three-sixty-two bit her lip and stared at Lawrence for a few minutes before the floor started to rumble. Lawrence stood up and sighed and then turned towards the elevator doors as they opened up.
"Come on," he muttered, stepping into the elevator. Numbuh Three-sixty-two followed him, staying quiet. She felt bad for upsetting him but she was afraid to speak again in case she upset him more. She watched him out of the corner of her eye, even though she had made him uneasy, Lawrence seemed to be getting back in his usual military posture. Despite him just wearing a t-shirt and swimming trunks under his armor, he still looked as if he was in charge of everything aboard this ship. The elevator stopped suddenly and the doors opened, she had to say something.
"Sorry for making you feel bad."
"It's okay, Rachel," Lawrence said, smiling back at her. "I've been through much worse and if I'm honest, I feel worse whenever my friends and fellow soldiers are lost in battle. Mostly because that happens more than me being shot." He gave Numbuh Three-sixty-two a friendly pat on her shoulder before he stepped onto the bridge, letting out a small sigh of relief as the floor was warm under his bare feet. Numbuh Three-sixty-two giggled before following him. The bridge of the Forthcoming was very different to that of the Stone of Summer. It was much wider than she thought, the sunlight streaming in from the friend viewport, the other thing that was different was the complete lack of professionalism demonstrated by the bridge personnel. A few seemed to be working on computers at on chart tables but most were casually talking to one another, playing card games or over on the left side of the bridge dancing to what sounded like Russian club music.
"Lawrence?" a small voice called out from in front of them, "What on Alpha are you wearing?"
Numbuh Three-sixty-two looked over to the owner of the voice and was slightly surprised to see someone dressed in the same uniform that Lawrence was wearing earlier jog over to them.
"Adrian?" Lawrence said as he walked over to the other general. "I'm more inclined to ask what you are doing here on the Forthcoming."
"The Dusk took a missile up the tailpipe back in the Unifon Nebula so I'm using the Forthcoming until she's fixed."
Lawrence chuckled and then turned to Numbuh Three-sixty-two. "Rachel this is General Adrian Ammacus. He's second in command of the UKA and without a doubt one of my best buddies."
Adrian looked up and down Numbuh Three-sixty-two and chuckled.
"So you're the one who's leading the KND separatists, that's cool. I've never been in the KND but I'd rather not be a part of the losing team on a galactic scale."
"I don't think we're separatists," Numbuh Three-sixty-two said, "We've never even seen the Kids Next Door that you fight."
"Yeah, I figured that," Adrian said as he faced Lawrence. "So everything aboard is for her troops?"
"Everything in the front of the hangars," Lawrence replied. "Did you bring any starships?"
"We would have but the things disintegrated after warp. Lost about three hundred ensigns on those deathtraps. Most of the crews got away though so there is some good news."
Lawrence sighed and rubbed his head. "Well, we'll spare what we can. Looks like we'll just have to capture a few more Adult ships for the KND's fleet. Also, have Nova Team completed their mission yet? We may need them again."
"Ah, that's a negative. They're still trying to catch that stolen Government starship."
"It's been nearly a week since I sent them out," Lawrence groaned, "At least we still have
Delta Force and the Cyber Commandoes.
Adrian nodded and smiled a little. "Like I've said before, at least there's some good news in everything."
Lawrence smiled back and nodded. "I take it you don't want part in any of the battles?"
"Nah, you and Rachel go score those kills. I prefer to keep my hand out of the fire and my shoes on unlike you, Lawrence."
Lawrence laughed a little and then turned to the elevator again. He motioned for Numbuh Three-sixty-two to follow him into the elevator again and the two didn't speak until the doors had shut behind them and the car was moving.
"He seemed nice," Numbuh Three-sixty-two said.
"He's a great kid," Lawrence said, "He has an older brother, Adam's his name, who leads Division N. It's funny how he started out in life. His brother was in the UKA way before him."
"Oh, why's that?"
"Originally, Adrian was accidently switched at birth and ended up being orphaned after his previous parents were killed by the Kids Next Door. He ran away from home and ended up on the streets of Legacy City before we picked him up after he tried to steal food from a store. Ironically it was Adam who caught him and when they looked at each other they thought they were staring at a mirror. After a few DNA tests we found out that they were brothers and brought Adrian to his rightful birth parents. However the kid who was switched with Adrian did get a little jealous and ended up running away from home and joining the KRCA to exact his revenge. However Adam killed the kid after he broke into their house and tried to kill Adrian. Believe me when I say that Adam is very protective of his little brother."
"Wow, and you made him a General when he turned out to be Adam's brother?" Numbuh Three-sixty-two asked.
"Yep, he had to do a few things first but once he passed he became one of the best Generals in the United Kids Alliance. He basically handles all the stuff that normal generals do while I'm fighting with my troops," Lawrence said as he stretched a little, "Anyways, it'd be best if you got back to the prison and got your operatives supplied and out of the place so that we can get this treaty signed."
"Well, I know of a good place to do it. We can use our Super Convention Center, but we may have to clear it out if the Adults took it over."
"Give me a day and I guarantee that I'll have my best Commandoes clear the place out for us with minimal damage," Lawrence said, smiling as the doors opened and he stepped out into the room they entered earlier. Numbuh Three-sixty-two followed him back into the hangar where there was an empty buggy, Lawrence hopped into the driver side and turned it on, Numbuh Three-sixty-two got into the passenger side and focused her attention on the various tanks, WarMechs, fighter planes and heavy bombers that they passed. Lawrence told her a little about each vehicle they passed, saying that everything in the Forthcoming would be used in the war against the Adults. Eventually they came across some KND ships, Numbuh Three-sixty-two was amazed at how many there were. Ranging from dropships to a heavy gunboat, the UKA certainly weren't joking about the firepower that the KND they fought had. However, after seeing how the UKA fight she knew that getting a hold of these ships must've been somewhat simplistic rather than a difficult task. Lawrence nodded over to a small fighter and smiled. "You take that one there, the rest of them will follow you."
"I don't know what to say," Numbuh Three-sixty-two said.
"Usually thank you."
"Thank you."
Lawrence chuckled as Numbuh Three-sixty-two stepped out. "No need, I'm just doing what needs to be done. Anyways, I'd best get back to my ship. I got word that one of my Assault forces got themselves hammered at an Ice-Cream Factory so I need to see what happened." He gave her a quick salute and drove in the direction of the UKA dropships. Numbuh Three-sixty-two looked over to the ships and the crates that were being loaded onto them and smiled. It seemed that Lawrence was doing everything and might do anything for her. She had the smallest feeling that the reason behind all the kindness and generosity wasn't just winning the war, it appeared that he was trying to impress her because maybe he had feelings for her. Numbuh Three-sixty-two chuckled a little as she processed the thought a little more. Lawrence was more focused on his military and winning this war, judging by his personality there would be no way of him liking her, he was probably give this stuff to the KND just so that they'd have a fighting chance. She sighed and shook her head as she walked over to the fighter, confused but glad to have a ton of combat ready ships and weapons.
