In my opinion the only way to simulate CMYK print on an RBG screen is to make the RBG example a less saturated version, or as you say, a trick.

CMYK looks a lot better to me, RBG looks so washed out.

The CMYK looks more saturated.
Although, if the output will be on a computer monitor then RGB is the way to go. If the piece will be printed, CMYK is usually the standard and the best option.
