Description Stephen Mitchell and The Epic of Gilgamesh (21st Century):
Stephen Mitchell (1943-present) is a versatile scholar and best-selling author. Born in Brooklyn, he was educated at Amherst, the Sorbonne, and Yale, and is versed in multiple languages. He has translated an extensive amount of ancient classics from various sources: Tao Te Ching, The Book of Psalms, Genesis, Bhagavad Dita, The Epic of Gilgamesh, The Illiad, The Odyssey, and Beowulf. Mitchell has also written prodigiously for children and is married to self-help author Byron Kathleen Mitchell. The illustration depicts Mitchell typing away at a computer, while a bookshelf in the background displays his bibliography. Above is a scene from the epic poem of Gilgamesh. The goddess Ishtar, seeking vengeance for rebuffed affections upon the hero Gilgamesh, unleashes the Bull of Heaven, Gugalanna, to reign destruction upon the kingdom while Gilgamesh and his friend Enkidu look on.
