You can use small tiles, or any polymer clay safe items, like disposable plastic sauce cup covers etc as end caps. I have written more tips here

This is really interesting. I'd never heard about this method before. I know when I (rarely) make canes, I end up with a lot of wasted clay from the ends. I will give this a try the next time I need to make a cane and see if it helps. Thank you for the tip!
