Gah finishing stuff is the worse - I should really smoosh all the half-finished things together into some kind of sketchdump like image and submit it! Let the world see my laziness!

YEAH you should, sketchdumps are fantastic because you get to see into the artist's way of doing things and not just the finished product
If I tried to fit all my WIPs in one file it'd probably be 123456789. MB of laziness lol

Thankyou so much hun! It was a nightmare to finish but I'm really glad it paid off lol! It's a great show if you get the chance to watch it with a really different take on the fairytale mythology (you know what a sucker I am for fairytales lol!)

I the authentic look of fear/unpredictability you captured in his eyes. Much as I love Skin Deep, and the job they did of reinterpreting one of my favorite fairytales from growing up by meshing it with another, 'Desperate Souls' is my favorite Rumpelstiltskin centric episode. *points to icon*

Thankyou so much - His expressions are so layered and complex I'm really happy I managed to capture even just a hint of it And Desperate Souls is definatly a stand out episode - seeing his motives and history really added another level to his character for me - although personally I can't help but love Skin Deep a little more as I am the worlds biggest sucker for hopeless romance!

I'm a romantic person too, but I like to see people work for their happiness, not be all "love at first sight". That's why I love BatB on a romantic level: they don't love each other at first, but with time, they come to honor and respect each other in their love.
P.S. I will never completely forgive Rump for stealing my heart during that episode. A heart that still beat dutifully for my Erik I might add, which augments the evil of the deed. Look, I know he's desperate for a little affection, and Phangirl hearts are ones that would understand his situation very well, but did he have to take mine?!?!?!

Same - I didn't mind the love at first sight thing when I was younger but these days I definatly appriciate a more complicated relationship, and the BatB dynamic really hinges on seeing what's not there, the aspects of a persons personality and soul that arn't visible to the naked eye
(And yes! Erik has long been a love of mine and I had actually intended to work on a better portrait of him and christine recently and then I saw OUaT and well that was quickly forgotten! Oh Rumples what have you done! But still I have to admit even though I adore him muchly now my heart has always and will always belong to the goblin king )

Oooooo, you don't say. He's been a love/muse of mine since high school. And I can see a lot of Jareth in Rumpelstiltskin's character, even if that was unintentional on Mr. Carlyle's part. (I wonder if he's ever seen Labyrinth. Probably not, but maybe.)

Jareth is self-absorbed though, something I can never imagine Rump being described as. Complacent and overly pleased with himself, yes, but never self-absorbed.

I think he's self-absorbed in the way that he's very centred on himself but not in the same way that Jareth is - Jareth's self absorption seems to be the belief that everything should conform to his ideas and pulling people into his way of thinking where as Rumple's all about self preservation and protecting himself by pushing others away. The focus is still inwards but in veryyyyyy different ways. Oh these villainous men and their self defense mechanisms!

There's definitely a spiral of self-hate going on inside Rumple's heart, and also the self-preservation instinct of the Dark One, but he wasn't selfish or vain before he became the Dark One, and even now when he is, those qualities still aren't there. Slivers of his original self surface between his words and in his actions, but you have to listen/look really hard; I believe that somewhere, trapped deep inside of himself, is the man he once was, scared and submissive because of the Dark One tormenting him and the decision he made that made his son leave him forever, but still struggling to get out and find his own happy ending once and for all.

You have summed up his character so well - I love those little moments on certain words or even in his face between thoughts when you can see his old self peering through, there's this wonderful vulnerbility that Mr Carlyle brings to the character underneath the bravado and trickster persona. Out of all the characters on the show he's the one I want to get his happy ending most

This is so awesome, lovely! The expressions are great, the coloring is wonderful, and the layout is so good! love that their hands are touching too. ^O^ Belle's eyes are beautiful, and I can't stop looking at them! Rumpel's are good too, but it helps to have lovely big blue eyes. Also great job on the details of her dress!

I can really tell a lot of attention was put into this and it is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOD! HUZZAH!
