Description
Yes, Reference sheet,All 3 forms, so that's why it's unusually large.
Yes,
Decided to make this cause it has recently come to my attention from various conversations with my fellow watchers that very few deviants know that my avvie Snowfyre has a total of 3 different forms.
Anthro Dragon,
Anthro Fox
and Feral fox.
And switches freely between each form depending on situation, mood, active element etc....
Just cause I usually draw him as a anthro dragon doesn't mean that's the only version
So yes, A U'GE reference sheet..... mostly for my own reference with the colours, but may be helpful for anyone who so happens to want to try drawing him.
So flat colours, no special effects.
1.2 has some minor changes over the previous version.
And I still suck at drawing feet.
And in case you're wondering,
"Femmie Snowfyre" isn't a proper character.
This was inked and coloured while I was wasting time trying to find a Feebas in Pokemon Pearl.

About "Snowfyre"
Well, originally was a anthro dragon that I made specifically to fill up the avvie picture shortly after I joined DA
Contrary to many artists,
My avvie only came about after I joined DA and as a Result of joining DA. ( which the pic hasn't changed since I joined cept for the blurry effects added )
Originally wanted Snowfire, but that name was taken.
Also in a small typo, my DA name is all small letters.
It took a much longer time before I drew my entire Avvie, mostly it was to fill up the Deviant ID slot.
Though eventually, as time went on, now used as my Avvie and an effective representation and a reflection of me..... in the crazy world out here.
Also cause I suck at drawing humies
As for the Specs... sometimes you see I'd draw with, sometimes without. Often depends on how it fits the pic and if I'm lazy or not. ( cause I wear glasses
Usually I'd leave them out cause I'm lazy.

Hmm, pretty interesting. Three forms eh, the eyes in the second form give you the appearance of being angry from what im seeing.
Very detailed, looks like its kinda fun to have your own character to act as
Id do it, but still practicing my real drawings so cant create an alternate "me" character for DA due to that
Eh, don't beat yourself up over the feet, they aren't that bad to me at least..my feet that I draw tend to literally look like a box

Snowfyre In reply to Goldenhalo [2008-03-25 02:33:36 +0000 UTC]
Well, Red is the alternative eye colour. usually it's golden yellow colour, but sometimes it's red. Depends on mood etc.
It's an Avvie. Though it's history is rather odd.
Happy drawing.
Feet? Heh.
Why you think my avvie usually wears shoes?

File Dimensions and File Size:
1700x950 is reasonable, only if the final JPEG file size doesn't exceed 300+ KB. Normally, more than 300KB is overkill. Reason being that uploading and downloading from DA will take longer loading times. Note that 300KB++ is a general guideline for web images. Also, character references are not meant to be super-detailed, so bigger file sizes is not necessary. If it is not possible to reduce to such a file size, then changing file dimensions is recommended. 1700px for width is a little too large unless you want to add in more graphics; here neither graphics and text are taking priority. Normally, 1240px width max is fine.
PNG-8 file format is better for this character reference as little shades are used. You can reduce all the way from 678KB++ to only 260KB++. PNG-24 is definitely not recommended; it makes the file size unnecessarily bigger.
Character Reference Sheet:
Color Chart:
Seems okay. I think adding the black outlines to each color is not necessary, commonly just a plain circle or square of color would do - makes ink-dropping easier especially for shaky hands.
Sometimes using the word "blue" to describe the different parts to be colored sounds vague. What other better way to represent color? Use color codes like 0F17DE for hair and 313EFC for inner ear for example. Do explore more in PS, you will see what I meant.
Various Wings:
So cute. The last one seemed to come off from the menu display while playing Nightelf faction in WC3.
Character Forms:
All is okay. Except that particular green for the shirt in Anthro Fox form is a little glaring. Try a more soothing color - this needs experimentation; if you still insist in green, 21B82B is fine.
Now to wings of feral and anthro fox forms, consistency is key; if the wings are already blue, then having it in white in the Wings Forms does break the consistency rhythm as a Character Reference. Stick to one color scheme: all wings in Anthro Fox/Feral forms to be kept at white.
Character text details are easy to read, it's actually the fun part of it to accompany the graphics. And yes, you are right; feet needs work, but only for Anthro Dragon and Fox forms. Feral form seems fine, don't see why need so much attention, but if you insist in changes, has some good references for animal drawings (and not just anthros ).
Side notes:
Everything's decent so far other than the points I did bring up. On an off-topic note, not about References for the Council characters? I find the four of them more wild in personalities, and in a good way.
Also, I did plan for a remake of my mascot character. But since April's coming, which is exam fever, you might wanna check again in May to see what's in store.
Hope that all helps....

Snowfyre In reply to Poila-Invictiwerks [2008-03-24 14:01:06 +0000 UTC]
I normally use 1200 as my max width.... screen issues, though it's not too much of a concern in a character reference..... particularly cause it's for my own reference.
Black outlines on ink to differenciate from BG. I find it easier on myself.
As for the colour codes.... well, I do know they exist, but decide not to put them in. Reason is simple. I use the dropper tool... and the reference is kept around specifically for that purpose for me.
I prefer not to complicate things you see.
I tend to save everything in JPEG. Simplifies matters. ( I work in simple tierms )
Last wing pattern actually was inspired from dragonairs I guess.
Though you don't really get the issue bout the wing colours do you. The blue is a base I use for the wing colour, but after highlighting, most of the wing will end up white but with the blue tinge.
Still need work on the feet.
Perhaps should have put discourage critique on this one. Cause it's a personal reference afterall and it kinda reflects my own style of ding stuff.
Thanks anyway.

Well then, here's a little interesting for you to read and think over [link] -> try to put "Critique Not Encouraged" for every future deviations then, since firstly it's your own preference, and secondly, it saves people the trouble for writing comments, and thirdly makes clearing messages a lot more easier. That means that I would have less things to write about too. That saves me some time too; so that I can concentrate on other things that are more interesting to write about. But don't come and ask, wondering why I "disappeared"...

Snowfyre In reply to Poila-Invictiwerks [2008-03-25 00:54:29 +0000 UTC]
Well, you could say it was my fault for forgetting to leave this particular one as critique discouraged. I'd do that for every single reference so that I don't waste your time.
-__-
Just cause I didn't really expect anyone will bother to critique something that is well shown to be sub-standard with respect to what I am capable of.
Yes, I do appreciate you picking on the stuff, the critique is useful,
however, as we are all humans, sometimes.... we just don't really take it well for certain times, locations or even moods. You should understand that.
There's also a certain social aspect bout comments. You should know that too. Not every comment needs to be a technical critique. Just discussing about the picture, context etc... is sometimes better than a critique can get.
I won't ask bout your personal life much. You're entitled to save time as much as you need...... Will be kinda sad to loose friends, but as always, it's their choice.

hehe, I have my normal body, which can have wings, then there is a seperate taur entity and ferral fox.
Then there's Samantha, who is kinda the equivilent of the council (willing and ready to kick my ass should I mess up), who has a taur "twin".
who knew being a furry was so complex!
