1st Chapter Master "The Crusader" - Little is known concerning this figure, his name among them. Though he is recognised by other monikers and nicknames, first and foremost among them being the "Crusader" moniker. As their first Chapter Master & Chief Apothecary, he led the Ashen Souls through the fraught and secretive days of the Dark Founding on a relentless crusade against the forces of Chaos, harrying them in their places of strength and rarely if ever pausing to give them respite. Noted and recognised as a callous and uncaring individual even when compared to his fellows both toward civilians and attached allies. Often leaving them to fend for themselves when their objectives were met or the dismissive attitude toward civilian casualties or that of their allied forces. It would be later toward the end of his tenure as Chapter Master before his death that his true nature as one of the Ashen Souls the Imperium knows today would be recognised, he would frequently be sighted carrying wounded marines or civilians away from the front and toward evacuation sites. Having gone from ruthless and bellicose to melancholic and introspective, his change in personality is emblematic of how the rest of the chapter underwent this change in doctrine and focus. At the time of the Crusader's death, he was around 1,875 Years Old, being the oldest serving member of the Chapter, having lived since the founding, all the way until they crawled back out of the Warp in 050.M42. He died five years later in the Fortress Monastery of the Immortals surrounded by the Brothers of his Chapter, and cousins of the Immortals. He succumbed to his wounds from an extremely rare Gal Vorbak, and the poison of a Mandrake.
