Description
With the new influx of resources provided by newfound trade with the Union of Worlds and RANGSI, the Staebh have begun working on improving their designs; many of their older ones the result of a need for firepower in a woefully outnumbering war, and with the newfound peace the SUSN has begun making more refined designs. The Lockbow is one of these. While the Lockbow project was originally intending to be frigate and replacement for the outdated, stopgap Arbalest, it ultimately found its ship becoming much longer, the Lockbow ultimately clocking in at roughly twice the length of the Arbalest at 2.2km. As such, it was reclassified as a light cruiser, and the Arcuballista project was formed to do what the Lockbow originally intended to.
Despite its reclassification, elements of the Lockbow's original intent still show through. For its size it is one of the fastest and most agile warships in the SUSN, and a considerable PD array of 16 PD autocannons grant the vessel considerable firepower against fighters and missiles, further bolstered by its 64 missile tubes; alongside typical nuclear missiles, the Lockbow also carries a number of bomb pumped laser units for obliterating missiles and hammering enemy shields. As always, the Lockbow carries a handful of impactor torpedoes for heavy damage, and carries 2 twin-barrel light coilgun turrets for attacking light targets. The Lockbow carries all the new armour designs the SUSN has been putting into use, making it respectably sturdy. With refinements to the design of the Transluminal Drive(or Alcubierre to anyone else), the entire array was made smaller, and the Lockbow is the smallest SUSN vessel with an integral FTL capacity. It cannot carry any other vessels with it, however.
