Description 1. Rise Of The Pickler

Writer: Jeffrey King

Date: August 7, 2020

Synopsis: "Gonzo doesn't thank Animal."

The title feels like something from a supervillain origin story. Let's talk about it. Anyway, this episode starts with Animal helping Gonzo put up a picture, but the latter doesn't say thanks to him. Gonzo wants pickles for snack time, and isn't happy with cookies. He then becomes Dr. Meanzo in order to turn the city into pickles. However, he still doesn't treat Animal well. Ad such, he (as Meanimal) becomes The Pickler in order to get his attention. The main message of the episode is about showing appreciation for what your friends do, though there's also a secondary message in not going too far to get others to notice you. Focusing on Animal and Gonzo helps the episode out. Gonzo is being rather insensitive given how he doesn't recognize Animal's efforts enough to thank him. However, the episode goes just far enough to make him likable. This is accomplished by showing that when he tends to focus too much on something, he doesn't exactly show his best side. However, he's not acting like a huge jerk. Animal himself is in top form. For all his impulse, he's extremely loyal to his friends no matter how many mistakes he makes. His origin in becoming The Pickler works given that all he wants is some appreciation, but just lets his wild side go too far. Plus, while turning things into pickles isn't really good, it's rather harmless and can be undone. The episode has a fitting ending. Everyone finds out about Animal becoming the Pickler, striking Gonzo with guilt. He then apologizes to him and everyone else for his rude behavior. Back at snack time, he then thanks Animal for giving him pickles. Later on, Camilla turns their food into eggs and everyone, including Gonzo and Animal, once again team up. It's pretty good.

2. Friend-a-versary

Writer: Ghia Godfree

Date: August 7, 2020

Synopsis: "Summer and Piggy try to make each other happy."

I'd say Piggy and Summer's friendship helps to bring out the best in both of them, as this episode shows. The episode Piggy and Summer's Friend-a-versary, which celebrates the day they became friends. However, they don't have gifts for each other. As such, they try getting each other the perfect gift. It's pretty obvious that the episode is about how a good gift comes from the heart. However, the way we lead up to it, as well as how the pieces come together, is where the episode shines. We actually have two plots to deal when splitting screentime with Summer and Piggy.

Summer: Summer gets help from Kermit, Animal, and Gonzo to get the perfect gift. She suggests a star from the sky to make Piggy's dressing room stand out. They catch it, but it's a shooting star that flies away. She then tries a parade for Piggy since eahd loves attention, but Animal accidentally lets go of Piggy's balloon, and chaos ensues.

Piggy: Piggy gets help from Chef and Gonzo to make an ice cream cake for summer, but it's too small. She gets Bunsen and Beaker to use their enlargement ray, but she messes with it, and it becomes too big. She then goes to make an ice sculpture of Summer with her karate chops, but it melts on the way home.

The reason the episode works is because of how likable Summer and Piggy are. Summer is about pleasing others with what she knows, but can't predict when something bad happens. Piggy is also about pleasing others, but she tends to think too big. There's just a wholesomeness to their behavior. As mentioned, you can see how this will end, but it is nice to see them make each other happy. Also, we get more Super Fabulous And Captain Ice Cube action. That's always a plus.
