"Can I hit someone with a wedge?" Dru asks. Practically salivating at the thought.
"No," I say. "Their reaction would show up. Not wise with her here."
"Can you fix that?"
"Maybe," I say. "With time I don't have. Let's do something constructive. Summon your power."
"I like it," she says, as I can detect her substantial power generation. "Level 6 to 96 in 0.2 seconds," she says happily.
"No alarms," I say. "Excellent. Hold on to that power I have need - "
"What's wrong?" she asks.
"She's detecting your pleasure and - "
"Why are you so cheerful, Sister?" Keisha asks, striding to our desk. Admittedly the woman is as beautiful as she is evil. I push that thought out of Dru's head as I push her out of the way, taking over.
"A breakthrough in the temporal field equations!" I say enthusiastically. Putting them on the monitor with an explanation and I lose her in under 3 seconds. But I'm telling the truth and she can sense that.
"Very good, Dru," she says. "You can skip Evening Service tonight."
"You are too benevolent, My Queen," infusing as much obeisance as humanly possible. She looks at me, pleased.
"Keep up the good work and I may unchain you," she says, moving off.
"She's not serious," I tell Dru.
"Yeah, I know."
"No," I say, "I mean it. She has no intention of doing it."
"Are you telling me you can read her through her shields?"
"Yeah, I can," I say, "and she is -
"OH SHIT!"
