"Sunset Strip, come in over." I say desperately into the commlock. Static plays back at me. "Doll, dammit, come in!" More static. The signal for her ship on the display winks out and disappears. My enemy for a long time and a trusted friend even longer.
"She's gone," a hoarse voice says behind me, then stops to cough up blood. She looks like shit, poor Tara. Beaten badly by her. And my Captain deserved much better than this. I'm doing my best here.
"Let me worry about that," I tell her, wiping her mouth with a damp cloth.
