Description Toying with a new technique, and who gets to be the model? Are you surprised? You shouldn't be. I'm fairly happy with the outcome, as I've just been trying to focus on improving my color and composition.

Don't ask what my thing is with drawing young!Erik-- All I can tell you is that the Giovanni arc of Susan Kay's "Phantom" has always been incredibly interesting to me. Being that it was perhaps one of the most significant 'turning points' in his life which led him to be the creep that we all know and love today, it's fun to think about how differently things may have turned out if there was even the most subtle of differences in what Erik experienced during his time in Rome. (Per Kay-Canon, of course!) That and the sheer amount of mopey-teenage-angst that guy surely had when he was a teenager must have been enough to implode a star.

And, of course, Erik belongs to Gaston Leroux

It's wonderful! The background silhouette is a great idea, and I very much like the outfit; simple (which generally fits with a young Eric and his status as apprentice), not exactly formal, but still hints as his upper-class, well-educated background.

Somehow I imagine I can see tension and power in the arms and shoulders and, of course, frustration in the eyes and around the mouth.

Makes me want to sit down with him and tell him that it's not all bad, because in Persia ... well, okay, ehm, but then back in France there'll be the Opera... which will be designed by someone else, right, but then after that... will be a lot of loneliness, yes, but if you make it through that there's Christine ... who'll marry someone else.

Okay, sorry, it is all bad, you're Fate's favorite chew-toy. But a hundred years later thousands of fangirls will go nuts about you, maybe that's something to look forward to?

Okay, I give up.

As annoyed as Eric looks in this picture, I think it must be from the post-Luciana-arrival days. I kind of feel that Luciana is supposed to be the bad guy as far as Rome is concerned, but _she_ didn't spoil herself rotten; her father did it, making life hell for his wife and then when his wife died, instead of finally saying No to Luciana now and then, uploads her first on his (lesser) daughters and then onto a school. _And_ doesn't warn Eric about her.

Poor sweet killer genius!
