Description
Everyone seems to like the rainbow and leopard hair, so I thought maybe you'd all like to see some of the other styles I've done through the years.I've been dying my hair since I was 10, and I'm 18 now.
The pictures start at the top left [age 14], and go in order to my current rainbow hair style at the bottom.
Most of the pictures I have of my past hair styles are on my desktop that broke down last year and I haven't been able to rescue the hard drive yet, so I'm sorry to say that these aren't ALL the styles I've done. There are many many more that I don't have the pictures for.

Vertically in half..? Like... wait... I'm confused. Like top is one color, bottom is another color?

Oh that's easy, yo just have to section it off with tin foil when you dye it.
Haircrazy.info may have some helpful photo tutorials that will probably have exactly what you're looking for.

i dye my hair and awful lot, but the color nevers seems to stay in for too long.
how long does yours stay in before getting really faded and looking yucky and bleachy & how long do you go between dying it?

My colors tend to last about 2 months give or take, which is when I end up redying it cause my roots are almost 2 inches by then.

Holy cow.
Reading your comments, the no shampoo thing seems to be a great idea, your hair still looks super healthy even after all of the nonsense I'm sure it's been through ^.^
When my hair gets longer, and healthier (I've been dying and styling and doing other such shenanigans to my hair since I was eleven or so, and I'm eighteen now) I plan on dying it orange with some yellows and reds in it.
I looked into Special effects and it seems to be the best dye, and it'll probably hold the longest. But since I've found you (muahahaha xD) I was wondering how long the color holds?

Thanks so much! Yeah sounds like we've been dying our hair probably the same amount of time. I haven't seen my natural color since about 10 or 11 either. lol
It really depends on the specific shade. Joyride and Wildflower are the only two dyes made by SFX that I hate. They both faded so rapidly, I was totally disappointed. But other than those most of my dyes have lasted at least 2 months before fading. And most of the dyes fade to very pretty colors so it's not like you end up looking washed out. Atomic Pink never faded or even bleached out. lol If you'll be using Napalm Orange [which I highly suggest, it's my favorite shade] that lasts a long time and when you're outside you look like your head in on fire. Haha
Some colors did fade about 2 months after dying, but about that time I redyed anyway, and other started fading a little sooner due to excessive use of products and such. Like when I had the mohawk and used gel and hairspray and washed my hair frequently. But even through that it lasted quite a long time.
SFX is really the longest lasting dye I've found and I don't think there's going to be anything better out there.

Yeah, my mom used to streak and frost my hair and crap when I was about that age, such a mistake lol.
Thanks a lot, though I've never really had a chance to talk to anyone who's used the SFX dye before, so I was a little concerned. But it sounds like great stuff, and all the pictures I've seen look fantastic. Napalm Orange was definitely what I was going for, maybe with a little Nuclear Red and that Bright Yellow XD
I'm certainly glad to know it's not a waste of time, and that it holds pretty well with the right care and whatnot

I have a question involving the 13th picture in this hella amazing photo line up. o_o
A friend of mine has dyed her hair dark black consistently for the last six years and she wants to go that dark shade of red. When we went to a salon and attempted to get red streeks put in to see if she would like it and well the bleach murdered her hair and then the red wasn't red, it just ended up orange. I believe that was all the fault of the salon, but uh, is there a safe way to bleach hair and ensure it will be bleached so that way when we add the dye it won't turn orange or rot her hair out?

SomberxEcstasy In reply to Kaia-of-the-wind [2009-08-09 16:21:06 +0000 UTC]
Once you go black it's near impossible to lift it without any damage. You could try out pravana, I hear it makes a very good color stripper though I have no experience with. I have friends who swear by it.
To get the red in the picture it was black before as you can see in the pic before it, and I just bleached it once and dyed SFX Cherry Bomb on top of it. It wasn't too damaged after just bleaching it once. What is very important is the dye you use as well. If you went to a salon and used the products there it's probably why it turned that orangey color. I'm not saying they have bad products, just salons aren't really used to dying the crazy colors and most don't have the best brands for those kinds of things. Your hair naturally tries to turn orange when it's processed no matter what so I'm not surprised it turned out like that.
Try out the color stripper, idk how well it may work because she's dyed her hair so long, but it's worth a shot. Or you can get out the bleach, don't leave it on too long, you don't need to get the hair white, or even very bright at all since she was wanting a dark red. Just lift it enough for color to show up the dye with some good dye. I recommend SFX, you can get it from [link] Before dying it I'd suggest deep conditioning it to bring back some of the life it may lose from the bleach.

Special Effects, you can order it here [link]
Manic Panic is bleh. It's doable and works for those who wanna change up the color every week or two [too costly to do that imo] but if you want something that's gonna be vibrant and last a while, go for SFX.

I love your styling! I've only been dying my hair for about...two-three years now. So far it's been mainly shades of purple, blue, and pink with some accidental green.
I use Manic Panic but will certainly look into Special Effects, as it seems to give a wonderfully vibrant color.
I used Beyond the Zone dye once. God awful. The purple I had intended on came out in everything but. It was very aqua though, many shades of blue and green.

Yeah one of the first times I dyed my hair an unnatural color I had used Beyond the Zone for a bright red and them some semi permanent black dye from Sally's... It came out bright pink (I hated pink at the time lol) and the black didn't even show up AT ALL. I was totally disappointed and never used it since.

Very unique and exciting!
I have a few questions, though. I've got a terrible obsession with dying my hair (identity crisis'. my original colour disgusts me.)
I was wondering what dyes you use and other tricks and tips you have, because from the looks of it, your hair looks very thick and very lovely even after dying it so much.
Whenever I dye my hair, it always seems to thin out--which is dissapointing.
Thanks for your time. (:

lol I've answered this question like 20 times by now.
I use Special Effects [link]
It's a vegetable dye so there's no harmful chemicals and it leaves your hair feeling very soft and healthy. Also avoid bleaching as much as you can, it's necessary for bright colors but don't bleach more than once in like a month's time or if you don't need to. Say you have pink hair and wanna go to purple, there's no need to bleach out the pink, purple will go right over it no problem.
