A Marine from Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, NATO International Security Assistance Force, escort an armored vehicle outside of their Kandahar Province, Afghanistan base. The Marines began going outside the wire to test fire their heavy machine guns, mortars and rockets.Related content

the vehicle is an LAV-25A2 (Light Armored Vehicle). it has a 25mm Bushmaster chaingun that fires either AP (armor piercing) or HE (high explosive) rounds at a rate of either single fire, 100 or 200 rounds per minute; a coax and a swivel-pintle mounted M240 7.62 machine guns. 4 and 8 wheel drive all terrain with a top speed around 60mph. crew compliment is around 7: 1 driver, 1 gunner, 1 vehicle commander and between 4 and 6 scouts in the troop compartment in the back.

Excellent picture, I am so proud of American soldiers serving in Afghanistan, trying to put an end to Al Qaide and other terrorists.
BTW - My son is a captain with the Third Brigade, First Infantry Div. and is also serving in Iraq. I am posted some of his photo in Chowen2001.
