Watch this, www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfNiSk… enough said.Okay, I'll give messa's speech. Most of yousa know that Jar Jar is messa's favorite Star Wars character. When I was a kid, i liked him, but he wasn;t my favorite. It was around age 16 when I started to favor Jar Jar, feeling like I could relate- meaning well but messing up; feeling like weird among everyone else. Yes, over the years some of my art has had some disapproving comments, and when cosplaying with a hat my grandmother made, I received not so nice reaction. Still, I stand behind the character and won't ever give up my support.
Listening to Ahmed Best's story about Jar Jar, how the negative reaction hurt him, and how he was going to kill himself... but didn't..... it was uplifting. Very uplifting right now, going through some personal hurt, being encouraged to not give up, to move forward past the injuries. And hearing his story, I can see how God prevented him from suicide- that God has a plan for his life. As in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans of good and not of evil, to prosper you- to give you a future and a hope". Ahmed, if you're reading... I hope this lifts your spirits up and touches your soul.
To paraphrase what a good friend of mine said about George Lucas in an appreciation video, but use it upon you.... Yousa an awesome actor, and a great guy!

When I was younger, I was a big Jar Jar Binks fan, and when I got older I was pretty shocked that people hated him so much, as if he crawled out of Satan's butt. And when I heard what happened to Ahmed Best, when he told his story, it angered and saddened me. It also saddens me that people want Jar Jar to be a Sith since they think that is what would make him likable which I think is a bunch of bullshit because I think there are other ways to make him likable

I admit, I can take Darth Darth Binks as a joke... but in all seriousness, that is NOT who Jar Jar is- and that would (as you said) not be a good way of making him quote-on-qote "more likeable". Aside from being fine enough as he was in the films, The Clone Wars and comics have perfectly developed and expanded upon his character ("The Disappeared" arc with him and Mace Windu teaming up is a good example)

Okay, this made me all weepy eyed, seriously.
I admit, I started off as not liking Jar Jar, that much initially. Granted, I never had the seething hatred for him that many have. However, the more I watched the movies, the more I related to him.
I found more and more, and especially with the addition of the Clone Wars stories, I related to Jar Jar a lot and felt very much a need to hug the poor fellow for having this enormously good heart, and have it used and manipulated for such awful things.
There's this huge section of fans that can't seem to deal with characters with good hearts that actually have their failures and struggles and that bothers me. Life is made of struggles and failures while trying to succeed and it's these sorts of characters I latch onto the most.
