Description
Esmerelda was brought onto the skyways before she could properly speak, sailing under her mother; the dreaded Captain Marisol Rackham. As a youth, Esmerelda found herself with a great fascination of the wildlife of the Spiral and kept detailed notes of all she found... even the sky-squid that destroyed her mother's ship. Esmerelda barely managed to survive by clinging to a piece of driftwood and floated through the Skyways for days before she finally ended up in the sun-scorched sands of Krokotopia, where she learned to fight with a staff in the arenas and mastered the art of hoodoo with help from numerous tutors, becoming a powerful witchdoctor.

Unfortunately, it was when she left Krokotopia to expand her knowledge of magic that she was captured by the Clockwork Armada, who had declared all forms of magic illegal and wanted to keep it that way by any means necessary. Thankfully for Esmerelda, the Armada wasn't counting on exactly how powerful her magical skills really were and she broke free of her bonds easily, escaping the prison ship and sailing off into the unknown, eventually ending up with a peaceful tribe of water-moles who taught her more until they were recruited by the great Monquistador Gortez for his expedition to the Isle of Doom... but even Esmerelda wasn't prepared for the great magic they would encounter on the island.
