(At last, Sonic and Iris returned to Athens, to meet up with Athena in the Acropolis.)

Athena: Iris. Sonic. you have returned.

Iris: I apologize for taking so long...but we were successful in saving Icarus' life.

Sonic: and taking out the Minotaur with Theseus!

Athena: (smiles) yes. the people in Athens are joyful for the return of their crown prince and his fellow youths that were sent to Crete. I commend you for a job well done.

Sonic: say, is Soph- I mean Nike here? I don't see her around.

Athena: I sent Nike to meet with the Moirai in the Underworld regarding these recent circumstances. I expect she would return by midnight, if not a bit earlier.

Sonic: so, with the terrifying Minotaur gone, what's the next challenge?

Athena: (looks down a bit, having a rather sorrowful look on her face.)

Iris: is something the matter, Athena?

Sonic: hey. why the long face?

Athena: (sighs quietly) there was someone I once knew....Medusa, the Queen of the Gorgons. she and I were once very close, but...she has gone mad and became the monster she is known today. anyone who looks into her eyes is petrified and turned to stone. she was, and still is, the target of many warriors from all over Greece, who wished to have her head to their collections of trophies. and all of them shared the same fate: being turned into stone. and there was nothing I could do to save her from herself.

Sonic: I'm...really sorry to hear that.

Athena: (composes herself) still, courage and skill alone would not be enough to defeat Medusa. you will need special equipment to slay the gorgon.

(Athena uses her power and a sword appeared in her hands, as well as a bright golden shield, the Aegis.)

Athena: this divine sword was made by Hephaestus in his forge. it is a remarkable weapon that never lost it's edge. and this sacred shield was once used by Zeus during the war against the Titans. those are my gifts to you, Sonic.

(Athena gave the sword and the shield to Sonic, making him whistle in amazement.)

Sonic: thanks, Athena.

Iris: do you know of Medusa's whereabouts?

Athena: Medusa's lair is on the island of Sarpedon, where she and her two sisters dwell. oh, I forgot one more thing. (takes out a bag made of special threads.) once you slay Medusa, place her head inside this bag. and no matter what happens, do NOT look into her eyes.

Sonic: (takes the bag) okay! I got the message, Ma'am!

Iris: we'll be off now!

Athena: I wish you the best of luck.

(and so, with Sonic now equipped with a sword and a shield, he took off with Hermes' sandals, with Iris following behind him to the island of Sarpedon.)

(the flight there took a bit longer than expected, since Sarpedon was a bit far from the rest of the Greek Islands. soon, they finally arrive to the island, which was clearly uninhabited by civilization. they see what appears to be a ruined temple, and see several petrified greek warriors that turned to stone were at the entrance to Medusa's lair.)

Sonic: (looks at the warriors that turned to stone.) Holy Chaos...what happened to them?

Iris: it is just as Athena said. we are at the entrance of Medusa's lair. those warriors have met an unfortunate fate when they encountered the gorgon.

Sonic: I had near experiences with death, and I did die once. but literally being turned into a statue isn't how I wanna go out.

Iris: Shh! keep your voice down. look over there.

(Sonic and Iris look to see two other Gorgons that were sleeping near the lair's entrance.)

Sonic: who are those two other gorgons?

Iris: those are Medusa's sisters. Stheno and Euryale. we must get past them quietly without them seeing us.

(Sonic looks around, and he, along with Iris, moved as quietly as possible to not wake the two gorgons. moments later, they managed to get inside their sister's lair without being seen by them. meanwhile, in the darkness inside her lair, Medusa, the dreadful gorgon, was seen opening her golden eyes, the snakes she has for her hair hissed. for she felt the presence of an invader. she knew something was wrong, but couldn't perceive what. and so she went to investigate.)

(back with Sonic and Iris, they walked inside Medusa's lair, passing by the temple ruins. Sonic knew that under no circumstances could he face the creature, otherwise he would end up becoming another statue for Medusa's long collection. the blue hedgehog cautiously moved forward, looking to different directions as he heard the sounds of a snake's hissing echoing through her lair. sensing that Medusa was nearby. Iris also looks around, for the same reason Sonic did, despite being a goddess.

because the lair was dark, Sonic could barely see anything and accidentally almost tripped over a rock. the noise revealed his position to Medusa. as she found Sonic and Iris, Medusa pulls the string of her bow and fires an arrow at their direction. Sonic and Iris barely evade the arrow, and Medusa fires another arrow. Sonic noticed and blocks the arrow with Athena's shield.

Medusa reveals herself, and Sonic dared to not look at the gorgon, as he looked away from her. A horrific monster and soft-souled victim. Snakes as hair, green scales as skin, claws instead of hands, and a gaze with such rage and sadness that it turns all to stone. the Queen of the Gorgons herself.)

(Medusa fires her arrows at Sonic, who began to run through a group of statues to run from Medusa in her lair. dodging and blocking her arrows with his shield, while trying not to get himself petrified by the monster. in that moment, Medusa's eyes glow bright and she releases a loud screech that makes the statues of her victims come alive and begin to attack Sonic. Sonic drew the divine sword and slashed through the living statues, breaking each one into pieces. she then slithered like a snake to seemingly disappear out of the hedgehog's sights.

the Queen of the Gorgons slithered all the way up to one of the pillars, and Sonic looks around searching for her. when he caught a glimpse of Medusa, he was quick enough to block a beam that was shot from her eyes to petrify him in order to turn him to stone. much to Iris' worry. the goddess looks around to find an idea to help the hedgehog... as he heard Athena's voice speak in his mind, saying... )

''You are a warrior, you are guided by wisdom and courage .Don't hesitate to act, your mind is clear and your heart is brave.''

she then saw a large pointed boulder above. she flew up and shot a rainbow colored beam at it, causing the lair to shake violently. Medusa was quick to notice the boulder falling, and immediately evaded it before it could crush her. she hissed angrily at the goddess and shot beams from her eyes in an attempt to turn Iris into stone. but the goddess was quick to evade them. Sonic was at a loss of what to do to beat the monstrous gorgon. but when he looked at the Aegis Athena gave him, staring at his own reflection in the shield's interior, an idea popped in his mind. and, as if he had been touched by Athena's wisdom, he conceived a new strategy to fight and defeat Medusa. he took cover, avoiding her arrows, behind the nearest pillar. and using the shield's reflection, he could see Medusa getting near him from behind.

Sonic remained calm, and waited until the gorgon was exactly where he wanted her to be. and when she did, Sonic came out of the pillar and with a loud shout, and a perfect spin with the sword, he managed to strike a blow right through Medusa's neck, cutting her head off from her body. both parts of Medusa fell on the ground with a loud thud. Medusa was dead, and Sonic accomplished a seemingly impossible quest. and Iris was reminded that, in this world, in the world of the Greek Mythology, Sonic represented Perseus, the Hero who has slain Medusa, as she saw him put the gorgon's head inside the special bag Athena gave him.

with Medusa vanquished, but to Sonic's surprise, the blood that was dripping from the gorgon's body gave rise to a white beautiful winged horse, who neighed at the hedgehog, as if it was thanking him for releasing him, before flying out of the lair. Sonic and Iris made their way out of her lair, seeing that her sisters were nowhere to be seen. they didn't know where they went, nor did they care, as they took off to the sky again and make their way back to Athens. it was here that Iris wanted to ask Sonic something...)

Iris: Sonic. do you mind if I ask you something?

Sonic: sure, what is it?

Iris: well...back when we saw Icarus fall to the sea, after he flew too high. I saw you getting engulfed in bright electric surges...

Sonic: huh? oh...that.

Iris: does this world seem to affect you in some way, or... is it something that happens on it's own?

Sonic: well, after...what happened in my world, my body started to emit electricity, which is something out of my control. it happens every time I get overwhelmed by bad emotions, from being anxious to feeling alone, and being consumed by sorrow. it happened a few times in my world, and I accidentally ended up hurting someone I know... a friend of mine who is the closest thing I have for an older sister. that's another main reason I was sent to Greece.

Iris: the one that resembles Nike?

Sonic: yeah...her name is Sophie. we've known each other since we were kids. we've been through a lot together growing up, and due to certain circumstances that happened back in my world, I ended up being emotionally unstable. from having multiple panic attacks, nightmares of what happened and what could have been. basically being a broken mess.

Iris: so this...electricity around your body. it is influenced by those emotions you were feeling at that time.

Sonic: yeah. I feel like that there's a really big blockage inside me somewhere, and I need to break through it to get better. or something like that.

Iris: I'm sure you will overcome this. whatever it is that you're going through right now...everything will turn out alright in the end. you'll see.

Sonic: how can you be sure?

Iris: well... (looks towards the sun starting to rise over the sea, as the night was passing.) remember that it's always the darkest before the dawn. the bigger your challenge, the closer you are to your victory.

Sonic: heh...it sounds like Athena is speaking through you right now.

Iris: no, Sonic, that is a truth. a truth that applies to both gods and mortals alike when they go through impossible circumstances, outward and inward.

Sonic: fair enough. I'll take note of that. -w-

(and so, Iris and Sonic flew into the sunrise as they were crossing the sea and make their way back to Athens.)

(back in Sarpedon, the two gorgons, Stheno and Euryale were grieving the loss of their eldest sister. so much that they broke the statues of the warriors to pieces with their eyes, as if they were trying to look for the culprit. until they sense a sinister present...they look behind them and see a cloaked figure, literally but slightly emerging from the black shadows, barely revealing his appearance.)

???: you must be Stheno and Euryale, the sisters of Medusa.

Stheno: (Hisses angrily like a snake) who are you...!?

Euryale: and what do you want?!

???: You are clearly grieving the loss of your eldest sister. lashing out is a normal occurrence when one experiences the loss of a loved one.

Stheno: we...we were asleep...

Euryale: and our sister died, because of that! because we couldn't protect her!

Stheno: someone has entered the lair without either of us noticing!

???: well, in that case...I can help you get your revenge. if you join me.

Euryale: what's in it for us to join you?

???: because I, Thanatos, know who has slain your dear sister, and I will help you find him.

(the two gorgons look at each other, then at the shadowy figure that revealed himself to be Thanatos, the primordial god of death. soon, the two sisters agree to join this demon, both taking his hands. Thanatos chuckled evilly to himself, having the gorgon sisters join him as part of his malicious plan he will soon unleash upon the Greek World.)
