Description
Cooper's Hawk (Accipiter cooperii) sunbaths and rests on a perch for a while. I believe this bird is one of two cooper's hawks which have built a nest nearby. Unfortunately their choice in nest location is next to a busy path, with the weather warming up and human activity likely to rise, I hope they aren't disturbed too much.Related content

Thank you! Now I'm focusing on observing the chicks which are now fully fledged.

Thank you, I'll be seeing a lot of them since they have decided to nest nearby.

Great behaviour shot! Very sharp, and well composed! You should submit it to the cooperii group

Thank you, hawks tend to give people "death stares" quite a bit :S

Yes, but that tends to give us something to capture through the lens

I'm pretty sure this is a sparrowhawk, not a cooper's. Cooper's hawks are more brown/striped, and are slightly bigger.
It's a really good photo though

ok cool, I was just going with what I was told by a birder friend.
Also is a sparrowhawk another name for sharp-shinned hawk? I couldn't find it in the cornell ornithology website.

well, "sparrowhawk" is a name used for many species, like the american kestrel, or other small falcons/accipiters.
it's actually kind of confusing...
